I think the popup flash is on the camera to use as a fill flash in a pinch or to trigger the speedlights via TTL. The D4 is geared toward sports and event photographers who probably aren't going to be dealing with a lot of flash, while the D800 attracts studio/commercial and landscape photographers, where TTL is a plus.

I also like the popup flash very much. It's great for triggering external flashes when you have no radio transmitter.

I'm glad it snot just mine then.
I upgraded from a D300 and noticed the difference in shutter sounds.

very well, iso is great on this camera. high iso noise pretty much goes away when the huge 36mp image is downsampled to normals sizes

works good for me. just went to night baseball game for fun, and brought my d800 and 150-500, and at f6.3 and almost 10, 000 iso and high shutter speed, i got decent photos. pretty amazing for a night sporting event with no flash

Matt, what you need to complete your lenses is the Nikon 14-24mm then you'll have the holy grail in lenses.

The D600 will be considered entry level FX, the D800 is a beast. I've watched a tonne of comparisons between it and the D4, and the only advantage I see for a D4 is the higher FPS burst. Give me 2 x D800 over one D4 any day!

I also moved up to the D800 from the D7000. One thing that I've noticed that I haven't seen addressed anywhere is the dramatic difference between the shutter sound. The D800 has a really loud shutter. I can also feel the shutter in both hands each time is actuates. 1 thing I've considered is whether that loud and powerful shutter could add to camera shake. Even using the mirror-lock-up doesn't help reduce the vibration very dramatically. Have you found the shutter to be problematic in any way?

i had it, very good lens, but i dont do much UWA photography, i sold it and bought a tokina 17mm 3.5 for my UWA lens, the 24-70 is usually wide enough for what i need. i mostly do wildlife photography now.

Hey markpianoman, I think the 2 diff. cards is a better combo, to my knowledge the CF compact flash card is faster than the CD card.  I'm fixing to get a Nikon D-800E in about a week or Two.

i can once you have the supporting elements to go with it. Like Ultra fast and super big memory cards, plenty of RAM of your PC and external hard drives to back things up. Also you NEED good glass on this camera.

i guess your right. but its not a d4 or d3s. its the cheapest fx camera in the nikon current lineup. if you dont count the d700 which should gone soon as far as current cameras

if you trade in your 150-500 you would't have to spend much on a 300f4 and you could get a 1.4 teleconverter for it which would give you nearly the same range as the sigma with better image quality and faster focus. If you have a d800 its pointless to have inferior glass in front of that sensor, you may as well just use a d3000.

Great review!, and honest!.. I've just ordered mine, should be a week to get it!.. But what do you think of the NIKON 85mm f1.4 lens to put on it first??. I love my street-shots!. But is it worth shelling out another £900 after the £2500 for the body??..

Nice equipment! I just switched from a T4i to the D800. What a learning curve! LOL The thing I noticed in you video is the money spent on camera equipment and lenses, and no mic for your video! LOL You can pick up a nice lavalier wireless camera mount mic for about 150 bucks from audio technica, that would go a long way in bringing up the quality of your videos.
