Ive seen so many young people that thought this was a good idea, until either them or someone they care about gets hit with the problem.. then they are quick to think its not a good idea.

So JD's plan is just to go back to how it was. I've worked my whole life and so has my husband. None of our jobs carried healthcare. I shouldn't have to worry about losing my house to cover a medical bill. We couldn't pay the cost of healthcare before the Affordable Health Care Act. If it goes back up, we couldn't now. My hope is Harris can bring down the cost even more.

So trump team is putting the middle class further and further into debt, while giving more tax breaks to the billionaires. We tried this in 2016 and 80 million people voted you out. We will not go back. I'm registered to vote, if you're reading this comment go register now, if you haven't already. We need you to stand united with us. Vote 💙

Can we eliminate health insurance altogether and just make healthcare affordable on its own?

I remember applying for health insurance before the ACA. The agent asked me a billion health related questions. Heaven help me if I forgot some seemingly insignificant procedure or illness I had back in my youth. They could have booted me if it was discovered. Yeah...those were the days.

It's just like Kamala Harris said... We're not going back...

The way that works is the younger people will pay the cost when they are older like we used to do. But today, Trump allowed healthy people to opt out without the tax penalty that was in place when the ACA rolled out in 2014. The Republicans are as shortsighted as always! Play now, pay later politics.

Pregnancy is literally a preexisting condition, the fact that they want to charge those with preexisting conditions more is sickening.

Because of food deserts and red lining most black Americans consume the worst food. Leading to preexisting conditions. This is an attack on black health as well.

I've had my beef with ACA, but the protections for people with preexisting conditions was arguably the best upshot to come from it

My god, what will happen to dementia patients?! My mother was never formally diagnosed, but she’s in memory care now and probably not for long. She’s 90, but her decline started around 80, when she had an “easy” stroke but never got her brain scanned after the fact. My family is fortunate that my 93 year old father has the money to afford all this care, but the majority of this country does not. Over 1/3 of people 80+ are documented to have dementia in some form. It’s only going to get worse, especially for the boomers, and this country is woefully unprepared for the onslaught. God help us all.

They already overcharged older Americans.
United healthcare races the cost every year for their premiums based upon a persons age.
When my mom first retired, she was paying United healthcare $75 a month for her insurance supplement.
By the time she died, it was over $300 a month

Trump has a "Concept of a Plan" for Healthcare. Think about that the next time you need to visit a Doctor or Hospital.

To me the healthcare solution or debate is rather simple. Employers which is where most Americans who are still working get their healthcare should be out of the equation. Today employer decides which plans to offer, the employer decides what the deductible and out of pocket costs will be. The employer decides which physician network will be used. As an employee you have no choice. And if next year your employer decides they want a different company with different options, you must change again.

Now look at Medicare. I have yet to find a single senior tell me they hate Medicare and want to do away with it. So why not make Medicare open to all Americans. You can have private companies like Aetna, Cigna, United etc. offering plans at specific prices and people could choose the plan they like best. Employers would be out of the healthcare selection business and instead would provide each employee with a yearly stipend from which they would select which Medicare plan worked best for their situation.

This solution would be the perfect blend of public and private coming together to offer something better. Unfortunately however Republicans have so demonized the topic that you cant have an intelligent conversion so the status que remains.

how about if we get the same care as our Senators and Representatives?

And on top of not being able to afford insurance if you'd had cancer, when you went to die you left a huge bill at the hospital which your family couldn't pay. This was causing small town hospitals to go broke. You might then be 50 or more miles to the next closest hospital. People could die getting to them.

The Canadian system and also the European health care systems are not perfect but they do take away a lot of the financial pain. It needs a rethink. If basic healthcare ( emergency treatments, pregnancy etc ) were covered by, say, a health tax the everyone would be covered, regardless of age and pre-conditions. Above a certain line, increased premiums may be needed. Also, those who have more money can y and have premium healthcare if they wish. It needs a good re-think.
