Just yesterday I've installed xpenology on a qnap hardware with an intel j4105 onboard . Works like a charm.

Hi, I am trying to do this on a TS-469 Pro but i'm stuck after loading the windows installer 22:10, so it never shows the windows setup wizard itself 22:18 . There is no video output from that point on. I tried sideloading the Intel Video driver for the onboard video card, but this doesn't help. Any ideas??

@nascompare
Does the basic Windows Server Standard 2022 or 2025 iso have all the drivers required for the setup or the drivers have to be sideloaded during installation?
Thanks in advance!

I loved my windows server back in the day but the machine was huge. I bought my first QNAP and never looked back. Small form factor but it took a lot to get use to the QNAP OS.... They say the synology interface is much like the windows interface so I dont get why you would sacrifice the OS of a QNAP to make it a windows server...But I guess there are some advantages I just dont thing the PROS outweigh the CONS. Any way thanks for the video I was interested and was thinking of doing it but I think ill stick with the QNAO interface. As always great job you are my go to guy for NAS info CHEERS

I got as far as booting Windows installation and clicking install, after that I get to the screen where it should list the drives to install, and it says "no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the current drivers, and then click ok." This is with a Windows Server 2022 bootable USB. So... given this is a QNAP NAS (TS-1290FX) I'm not sure how to fix this. I have a U.2 Drive in one of the bays I plan to install the OS on to. (Didnt have any M.2 slots inside the NAS) You downloaded the 64-bit Windows Server, but it seems it might be incompatible? Please help if you can! Thanks!

And what is about fan control? Does it work?

I was able to install server 2016. But, I wiped out the QNAP OS. Now I have issue connecting to any network. It says network driver not found. Could you help?

Personally I'd set the Windows SSD to the only boot, and disable any other boot options (including the QNAP OS) so that I don't automatically boot into them, then use boot override (USB) for the initial Windows installation.

So what is the purpose or advantage of this installation method over running a Windows VM on the NAS?

Ok Dumb question (maybe) I have a TVS-1271U-RP i7 3200 4 cores 8 threads 32 Gig of ram I understand I can put the windows OS onto the box but can Windows access the 10G cards that I added to the system? I am planning on installing Windows on to the MSATA drives onboard the machine itself. As cache they are a good idea that is not really built for speed as Linix is also not build for moving lots of files very quickly. So I am considering a switch to Windows provided that I am not throwing away the added cards in the box. Thanks for this I suspected this was possible and was thinking of trying it and now I will definately be looking for a day where I can. Does this use all of the hardware in the box? does it have the drivers already? I am excited by this idea. I have 2 of these boxes and I can test speed side by side with both OS to see which one I want to use and I can always switch it back.
Thanks

I am trying to do it on my TS-253D with a pcie nvme adapter. It works if I install Ubuntu and I can boot from it. With windows server I have a problem at the end of the installation. It goes almost to the end (all green tickers marking the completed steps), but I always have an error saying "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of the installation. To install Windows, restart the installation"
Has anyone had the same issue?

While this probably does work by running off the minimum specs for server 22. It hurts my brain to think that we're will be little resources left for decent security software.
If anyone does this I hope that they are just using it as a simple file server and not as internet facing unless properly segmented.

There are plenty servers that are better than windows 2022 server and uses less resources like Rocky or Alma Linux, FreeBSD etc. I use OpenSuse micro os for my home lab servers.
