Amid cost of living crisis, UK election campaigners care little about rising poverty

The cost of living is one of the biggest issues for voters in the UK's general elections next week.
For some, that means a bigger chunk of their income going to essential spending. But for others in poorer regions, it means an inability to feed their children.
Yet the main parties appear to be paying little attention to tackling poverty in their campaigns.

Al Jazeera’s Rory Challands reports from Newcastle upon Tyne.

Be strong.
There are millions of homeless Americans and nobody cared.
They are giving more tax breaks to the rich in America.
The rich are turning a blind eye …..

Consider this. Nearly 3 million of working age in the UK claim they are unfit to work, and are receiving benefits. Is it any wonder that the economy is so buggered?

Billions for Ukraine for free, depsite UK is far far from the the region (Ukraine/Russia) and English people are struggling real hard. What UK has is likely not democracy, but plutocracy.

A recent Resolution Foundation report (June 2024) states that poverty has FALLEN in the UK, "...Over the last 14 years, absolute poverty (where the poverty line is fixed at 60 per cent of the 2010 median income in real terms) has fallen for all age groups, by 3.9 percentage points (230, 000 people) for children, 3.9 percentage points (730, 000) for working-age adults, and by 2.8 percentage points (280, 000) for pensioners. The problem isn't really social funding, it's that the people in receipt of benefits or minimum wage don't know how to spend their money properly. Poor people are more likely to smoke, drink alcohol, play the lottery, use pay day loans and finance purchases on HP. This is a huge waste of money and these people need to be financially educated, not given more money because I absolutely promise you if you give them more money, they'll just waste it.
