PM faces criticism over energy strategy amid cost of living crisis

The UK government's energy strategy sets out to build eight new nuclear reactors, as well as a lot more offshore wind.

But the prime minister has already faced questions about how it will help people pay rocketing household bills.

And Green groups say there's nothing to improve energy saving measures like insulation.

Craziness. It takes over a decade to build a nuclear power station, they usually go over budget and the economics of them already compare terribly to renewables at today's prices. Price of renewables continues to drop. More investment needed in chemical, thermal and mechanical batteries so we don't have to waste the excess energy when it's windy/sunny and use it to fill in the gaps where gas is currently used.

Johnson is all about big promises and no execution. He'll say anything to make him look like he's doing something, while he's actually doing nothing.

Nuclear is even more expensive. There is no sense in this whatsoever

Well hang on, they said no windfall tax on energy companies because they’re investing in U.K. power infrastructure, yet there’s a levy on our bills to pay for nuclear power plants in the U.K.? 🤥🧐

Better insulated homes would help a lot so the UK government should invest in that in addition to the other initiatives like nuclear power stations ...

You asked Ed Davey MP to be on your show. He had the good grace (unlike the tories) to show up on time and be ready to rock and roll. So why can't the interviewer let the poor guy finish answering a question? Did Ed Davey interrupt you whilst you were asking your question? No, he didn't. So shut up and listen for a change. You might learn something.

What strategy - no chance of having this online by then, where is the money coming from?

When citizens ask for GOVERNMENT assistance that is OTHER TAXPAYERS. We still act as if there is a money tree somewhere. The solution is obvious. Like ordinary households, the UK government has to reduce expenses. Start with MPs recent pay rise and have the royals stop taking (pay their own way fully). It seems criminal that the wealthy royal family is a huge expense given how wealthy they are.

The freedom wealthy Britains enjoy is not free. The wealthy paying more will not break them one bit.

Englands Hinkley point c cost £23 billion
New London crossrail costing £19 billion

8% UK population share =
paid £1, 8 billion towards hinkley point = no equivalent investment
paid £1, 5 billion towards London crossrail = no equivalent investment

Now expected to pay more towards investment outwith Scotland for no equivalence here

This is just plain insane! It will take years for anyone to get the benefits. We have nations around the world trying to wean themselves off nuclear energy due to the waste products like radioactive spent fuel rods and water which need to be stored for thousands of years. The only people who will benefit will be the companies that build these plants who are going to make billions and are probably conservative donors. They have added offshore wind farms to hide the fact that this is ridiculous and wasteful. They had years to sort this and the energy companies have had record profits year after year. They have resisted renewable energy over and over and now everyone is reaping what these idiots have sown. The billionaires who own these companies are going to get richer at the taxpayers expense as well as their investors. Someone is definitely pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Rishi “I have kids so I understand you” Sunak says “leave family out of it” now?
Can’t he just say he has a tax dodging wife so he understands that people don’t like paying their fair due of tax?

Also it’s DISGUSTING that our own CHANCELLORS WIFE is basically another massive red flag.

How many have they approved in last 11 years? What have they done to be self sufficient and to provide cheap clean energy in last 11 years?

Whatever happened to the Severn Barrage project? They were talking about that since I was a boy.

Whilst nuclear is a very efficient energy resource. It'll take a decade to start a nuclear power plant.

What we need first is to have our own government Manufacturing insulation company and start insulating homes in the UK . Having myself have just built a extension and to buy a 8 x 4 ft 125 mm thick insulation board was close on £80 absolutely ridiculous price for something that cost pence to produce.

The Tories don't want to save energy, it makes their donors rich. Time to do the right thing, time for change.
