Kim Thayil is one of the most underrated guitarists in rock. And to take a tune from Howlin' Wolf of all artists, and make it their own shows extreme talent.

Love how they made this their style yet kept the blues intact.

After i first heard loud love back in 86 or 87 i was deeply in love w soundgarden. It was an extremely shallow time in rock and they lit my soul on fire. So naturally i started snatching up everything by them and had totally gone grunge. Ultramega OK threw me in even deeper and this song stuck out the most. When i discovered it was a blues version of a howlin wolf song i plunged headfirst into the blues. So i owe the majority of my expanded music tastes are owed to chris cornell and soundgarden. Chris' departure from this plane of existence broke my heart like i had lost a family member but i will always have the utmost appreciation and gratitude that he existed at least for a little while.

I heard they recorded this album on an 8 track reel to reel. Incredible. I love Ultramega so much. It really captures that early alt and grunge vibe. There were a lot of really fresh sounding bands back then and the scene was amazing. Best time for rock ever was 88-93.

The music arrangement is the Zeppelin translation from Zeppelin's West Fillmore shows in '69.

Smokestack lightning
Shine a light home
Smokestack lightning
Shining like gold
Treats me like a clown
Wheels go driving slow
Trucks me out of town
Wheels go driving slow
Tell me baby
So when you coming home
Tell me baby
When you coming home
Wheels go driving slow
Wheels go driving slow
Wheels go driving slow

Imagine if they also -- or instead -- woulda done a rendition of *'BACK DOOR MAN'* (1960, Howlin' Wolf/Willie Dixon). The heavy bassline & drum patterns of the Howlin' Wolf original would have been easy to translate into a _'Supermotorfinger-ish"_ banger💥 because the 1960 original blues/rock Wolf song already had the heavy sludge-like bassline & "machine-gun funk" drumming which the likes of Sabbath and Zepplin (even Hendrix) would take, popularize, and have accredited to them.
But hey, 'The Doors' had already beat Soundgarden to covering Howlin' Wolf's 'Back Door Man' first. I just imagine that a potentially well executed _'Supermotorfinger-ish'_ Soundgarden version could have at least been something interesting.
