I can't even afford to pay attention

I drive a 32 year old Jeep. If there's a problem, I fix it myself. I've re-engineered enough crap on the thing that I'm the only one who can work on it, LOL.

Anybody that's paying $5, 000 to fix a car is out of their damn mind

My husband is a mechanic. We keep the maintenance up on our 1990 f350 diesel dually because that vehicle means life. If shtf tomorrow our truck will run while others are left sitting. Is it cheap? No, but it's cheaper than the new cars that are worthless. We were offered $50 k for it and turned the person down because in a few years it will be worth more. Oh, btw, it has a mere 750, 000 miles and runs like a top!

Also, we don't trust anyone anymore from justified reason

There use to be a time where you could do the simple maintenance on your vehicle. Like change brakes, oil, head lights….etc. Now the cars are made so you will pretty much have to take it back to the dealer. The dealerships know this. That 1000.00 bill is actually 120.00 for parts plus 880.00 for labor. I want to cry every time I think I hear a rattle.😢

With car repairs, you always start with the easiest cheapest thing first then ramp it up. Sometimes you can just do it yourself. Other times you have to know your limitations. This is also why its best to keep an emergency fund for cases just like this.

Havent owned a car in 15 years, after we bought our house we bought an e bike, put saddle bags on it, do the shopping that way, they are covered under Renter's, Home Owner's.

I won a Chevrolet 2004 trailblazer in their On Star contest. It just now turned over 348000 miles and still runs great. The check engine light has been on most all those miles. I don't have the code reader to turn off the light. I do all my maintenance and mechanic work myself. Way to many rip offs out there. If you understand mechanics you can save a lot doing your own work. If not you are at the mercy of someone else who may or may not be trustworthy. I went to a trade school after getting out of high school. No college or college debt for me. I'm a certified mechanic turning 70 soon. Go to a trade school, Vo Tech and learn how to take care of your own mechanical issues and avoid the high cost of rip offs.

Although I have done most of my own auto repairs (engine rebuilds to oil changes) in the past, I am now retired and cannot do much of the more serious work anymore so we will likely have to occasionally step back into the world of shop greed. And yes, I have delayed scheduled maintenance, and it gets worse as I become older.
