Hoverflies are fascinating creatures. You can use hoverflies are aphid pest control to help in your garden. The life cycle of aphids is fascinating and they are excellent pollinators for balcony gardens. Hoverflies are my top pollinator on my balcony garden and their larvae are incredible at controlling pests. Hoverflies are beneficial insects that deal with aphids but also polllinate. In fact, I even show you hoverfly larvae eating aphids.

They are perfect pollinators for balcony gardeners. Hoverflies eat aphids and help with pest management.

I made this video as part of my social media take over of the Lancashire Wildlife Trusts. If you are new to my channel be sure to look through and subscribe :)

Be sure to check out my video on on the life cycle of aphids:]

Special thanks to Brimwood Farms on Youtube for educating me on Hoverflies.

I love hover flies so much, they're such adorable little things and they're so important for pollination and pest control!

We have plenty of them here, I like to sit outside on my hammock chair and watch them zip around in the air.

Syrphid (Hover) flies are a gardener's BEST FRIEND! When I first saw them, didn't know what they were but when I saw it feeding on aphids, made me GLAD I didn't kill or remove them! <3 GREAT CLIP! ;-)

Yes I did learn something new, that their larvae hunt aphids and use their empty shells to camouflage! That's amazing! I am looking into how I can make my garden more hoverfly friendly, as I have seen very little of them this year.

Glad to know I never have killed one, they definitely do well with mimicry to the point where a person that does fear wasps avoids hover flies just as much. Of course by now I’m 28 and have learned these little insects are social and eat sweat and salt from your hand it’s wild as heck. Love them. Absolutely love them. I literally love letting them land in my hand.

Do you have the rat tail maggots in your balcony pond then? Do you find they stink a bit? I guess there is good air flow up there so it probably doesn't matter too much.?

My ignorance, I imagined the higher your garden is the lower the pest pressure? And less pollinators?

Notice they hover right in front of your eyes given you a feeling of being in a trance.
