Yes and the best football played in that stadium was during the Ohio High School State football playoffs.
Lots of memories! Sad to see it go but understandable

Yes I do 😢 I missed out on the chance to explore in December bc it was too icy and now it’s actually all demolished I just drove by. Never pass on the opportunity to do or see something great when you have the chance 😭

Whenever I go to handles I see it and I wish Akron still played there, it would be fun to see my brother at that stadium

I live down the road from the "Rubber Bowl" & its completely gone now. Nothing but dirt & grass seed lol Their used to be a secret 4x4 tunnel at the top of the hill that would take you down to the field & you'd be eye level with the grass. (Underground)

I'm really ashamed the city and U of A let this happen. It really was a unique and historic place. I attended many high school games there back in my teens. Not to mention more performances than I can count for bands like the Grateful Dead, Simon & Garfunkel, and so many many more.

I remember it.
Went to University of Akron in 1990.
Kind of ironic that the new stadium is built over the Brown St. residence hall where the football players lived.

True Story. I was a attending college at the University of Akron in the mid 1980s. They were trying to buff up the football program that most of the student body couldn't have cared less about. UofA is largely a commuter college so who cares about football? Well they had a game scheduled for ESPN broadcast. To buff up the number of attendees they hired the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders for the halftime show. I watched on TV. Well the first half went well enough lots of cheering fans and great viewing for the game. Then halftime and the DC Cheerleaders come out and do their thing. Everyone cheers from the stands it's great. Then the Cheerleaders leave. And so did everyone else. By the end of the third quarter the broadcast has to keep to tight shots of the field. Every time you got a glimpse of the stands they were EMPTY. Not just a little empty. Like Ghost Town Empty. The entire stadium with half a dozen people scattered about per seating section and practically no background noise coming from the remaining fans. ESPN never offered to broadcast a football game for UofA again.

The rubber bowl was a great play to catch a football game.

I live right near there. The University of Akron built a new on campus stadium, so this was of no use anymore 😢
