PT Barnum: The Genius Showman

P.T. Barnum was one of the most interesting people from history. Born in 1810, he was of the same stock of but a few men of his era, men who innovated and transformed growing industries at this crucial time in America's economic growth.

Truly the greatest showman of the 1800s, he was responsible for bringing some of the most well known acts to fame. General Tom Thumb, Joice Heth, Jenny Lind, and many more. Barnum not only revolutionized the sideshow, but opened a massively successful circus and museum.

He even became a mayor and state representative. This is the story of PT Barnum, the only interesting person from Connecticut.

I'm so sad the circus is no more, I grew up occasionly going on tour with my dad, who was the music conductor for Holiday on Ice, and Ringling Bros. would be leaving tbe Knoxville (my hometown) Civic Auditorium when HOI was pulling in for 6 week rehearsals at the beginning of the tour, so sometimes there was overlap. This led to me being babysat by Gunther Gabel Williams, tbe lion tamer. So I got to hang out by the pet tiger cages twice. Super nice people, I'll never forget them as some of my happiest times were spent with show people. R.I.P. Ringlingling Bros/HOI.
