Formula 1 is a sport for the elite, with most drivers coming from wealthy families, racing academies, or even buying their way into a race seat. It’s hard to break through. But there is one driver who came from nothing, an unknown newcomer who became a Formula 1 legend. This legend is Kimi Räikkönen, a driver with only one season in junior series, who said next to nothing but proved he could do one thing really well: drive a Formula 1 car as fast as possible.

Honestly the story of Kimi getting into F1 is straight up the kind of thing that if it had never happened and somebody made a fictional movie or a book about it, everybody would say it's unrealistic and there's no such way such a thing could actually happen.

"12 months to progress from karting to F1 for a driver whose parents were broke? Hah, even Initial D with a Corolla beating GT-Rs and Evos is more realistic!". That's probably what people would say

Ron Dennis said that Kimi was the fastest guy he has ever seen. And that man had Senna, Prost, Hakkinen and Lauda in his team. Prime Kimi at McLaren was a MONSTER. His 2005 Monaco qualifying lap is one of the best moments in motorsport history and it rivals Senna's 1988 Monaco QF lap. Kimi was never again the same driver at Ferrari (for whatever reason).

you forgot about the system Finland is useing, there is a racing foundation that pays for the kids with talent and skill to karting and racing. you sign i contract there if you are successful you need to pay 10% of your income every year so next kid have a chance of going racing for Finland. So Kimi is paying today to this foundation, same with Mika Hakkinen. So in Finland you dont need to be rich to get to F1 like in other countries in Europe.
