I could get it if the laptop card was named a 4080 even if it's cut down from the desktop 4080 in terms of memory and core clocks, because at least that would make sense because otherwise they're the same GPU. The 4090 naming is absolutely insane and total bull on NVIDIA's part.

Naming the mobile cards the same as desktop cards is borderline scamming... This should not be legal.

Not only does NVIDIA lable a watered down desktop 4080 (which is already streching that name) as a laptop 4090, they also allows the manufacturers to not lable the TDP limit of the GPU. So it's easily possible for someone who isn't into hardwares buying a 80W "4090" laptop and getting far from what they expected. This is misleading upon misleading, well done NVIDIA.

If we ignore the marketing - it would be quite interesting to see a comparison of 4090Laptop to 4080Desktop. Maybe even including the same 103 die cards from 3000 series

So the specs are exactly the same as a desktop 4080 but with much lower TDP, yet they have the audacity to label it as a 4090 so they can charge $4000+ for it? This is a daylight robbery 😂😭

When I went from a 970 to a 2070 - I had, at times at least, a similar delta between gpus as these two products with the same name.

Given how similar it is to a desktop 4080, I think including data from the previous benchmarks done with that would have been interesting. Good job nonetheless, calling out Nvidia once again for their misleading naming practices.

NVIDIA selling a 4090 with "almost" 4080 specs is indeed misleading at best but I think this is also true for the MSRP of their whole current and most likely their future lineup....

On a serious note: Looking at the specs I am surprised that this "4090" Mobile comes that close to the desktop one in most cases.

The more interesting comparison would be 4090 Mobile vs 4080 Desktop. Since the 4090 Mobile has a lower TDP, but exact same CUDA, amount of RAM, etc, it would be nice to see how much efficiency could be improved.

I have a 3070 laptop and at 1080p it will be plenty for atleast other 2 years, I'll wait for the 5000 series to do an upgrade

People dont understand mobile was never supposed to be equivalent of their desktop variants. These performance numbers are amazing for a portable machine. these cards are a fraction of the size of their couterpart.
