Love climbing in wind if it’s in a helpful direction. One time about 100 years ago we were wrecking some big fir trees and the wind was blowing the limbs about 40 feet over a garden right to the chipper. You had to be there, but very fun.

Well done on staying up there, it's amazing how the bother of going back up makes you just stay at it 😄

I REALLY, REALLY don’t like the wind when I’m over about 60’. Starts getting really sketchy feeling. When your that high, a slight wind can move a tree top in all probably around 10. Swaying back and forth. People really just don’t even realize

I had my tie in break out in heavy wind years ago. Luckily it got hung up in about branch and only dropped about 15' and swung back to the base without getting injured. Mentally messed me up for a long time limb walking.

I would say that this was way way to dangerous to be up in it working that day. And I assure about this. Because I’ve worked in Safety in the Oil&Gas Industry, for 35 years.

From mid to upper management. Chances are you have a good life insurance policy for your wife in case you get killed. If you don’t have one? It would behoove you to get one ASAP. Now, with that being said, you need to know this. Because in retirement, I also do contract HSE policy review. 99% of my work is nothing more than safety review.

From on—site, which means going out to the site that you got killed on. And, taking a lot of pictures and asking a lot of questions. One of my questions I would asked was this how windy was it that day when he fell out of the tree 🌲?? and then I would compare what people told me, up against the national weather service to the local weather service.

Which I’ve already had to do this, One time. Besides holding 18 separate high level senior safety management certifications, I am also a CSP = Certified, Safety, Professional. Which qualifies me to be an on-site safety manager from the oil field to construction job site. Residential / Commercial / Industrial. And tree service falls under commercial.

I don’t know how windy it was that day on this job site. But just from the looks of it, it had average winds of 10 to 15 mph. And Gust 💨/ Blows up to, 25 to 35 MPH. If I discovered that you was up this tree with gust up inside this range? I would have to submit to the policy review board at the insurance company to deny the policy coverage.

If the policy has the wind speed in this failure range to deny coverage, on the grounds of irresponsibility and, lackadaisicalness. Even if I didn’t want to do it, I didn’t want to deny the policy I wouldn’t have any choice in the matter. Because the lawyers that review all policies before they are issued and trust me they are very very good at this Jacob.

They are experts they look for every kind of scenario they can before a policy is issued, which means before a policy is sold. and they are the ones that come up with the wind-speeds to put in a policy. And everything that they can deny coverage on a policy is always at the bottom and in fine print that hardly anybody goes to the trouble to read.

And the person selling the policy, every single one of them is on commission and they will go over to her three things at the top of what they can deny coverage for. They will rush you through it. Because they know by the time 45 minutes to an hour has passed, you or the wife ready to sign and get it over with.

All insurance salesman go to seminars, and they are expertly trained and what to look for in the customer. They know what to look for when it comes to signing and when you are ready to sign. Just like professional car salesman. They don’t have to lie to you all they have to do???? Is simply watch you, and the customer is the one that gives themselves away.

So your policy would’ve got denied because the winds were too high. It doesn’t mean that you couldn’t do your job or you don’t know how to do your job. You do and you could probably do the same job 100 times and nothing happens but let’s say you’ve got $1 million policy or a half a $million policy. There’s that one time out of 100 out of 1000 that they look for.

Then it might not be you. Chances are it’ll be another guy like you that messes up in Falls and gets killed and his wife that was counting all the money and she really does need the money and now she won’t get it because they didn’t know about the windage in the policy because nobody told them that the lawyers will be smug, and say nobody needs to tell you to read your own policy.

I’ve actually seen counsel for insurance companies tell a customer this. And I quote. “ only an idiot would buy a policy and not read it. Only an idiot.” I didn’t like it when he said it but I couldn’t do anything. Once we got out of the room, I didn’t tell him that he was a piece of shit the ladies grieving. He didn’t care he’s getting his $400 an hour. And he bills his billing at a two hour minimum. I’m sorry my friend but, all of this is, true.

You should try flying a 1, 800 lb fully dressed cell tower boom 400' in the air in wind like this and even windier depending on where at in the country and at what time of year ... I've been in some hairy situations flying antennas and fully dressed booms in some strong wind many times ...
