ad / this week I attended the Connecting Europe event, it was a fully packed programme, some of which I will unpack in the coming days, but here is my initial thoughts about what “green” transportation is, and how we get there 🌿(advertisement/invited by @europeancommission) #connectingeurope

Love this. I've moved around a lot and notice a huge difference in car usage depending on the local transport infrastructure.

“We already have the data, the technology, and the solution to lower the impact of transportation, but now we have to act on it.”

Say it louder for the people in the back!🤩

The public transportation/city planning should definitely be the first step! I live in a small Finnish village, and we just don’t have public transportation. The only bus route that pass by my village are school buses, so if I wanted to take the bus to go to the store for example, I would need to leave at 7:30 and come home at 16:30 😂 And even if I’m already in town, there is only a couple non-school bus routes per day and they only go between two bigger cities. And I don’t think any buses run at all on the weekends, at least not during summer. I regularly see social media posts for people looking to share a ride to work or school, which is nice of course, but it shows just how bad our public transportation is here!
There is a recurring conversation here about “accessible living”, i.e. not forcing people to live in big cities and having access to grocery stores, schools and public transportation in rural areas as well. It simply isn’t sustainable (in any sense of the word) to push everyone into big cities, we need to make sure small towns and villages are accessible too and the first step in my opinion is public transportation.

Oh, so great. I would really appreciate a whole video about this topic an what you've learned on the conference 🥰 "Our changing climate" made a video on the future of transportation, it was really great 😊

I hate that we in America have been forced to love our car industry from the past. And there is such a push back now on getting high speed trains and other mass transit, low emmish transportation.

Omg I'm living in Belgium rn and these shots are so cool to see. More to the point, your message is such an important one to raise so thank you! How did you travel here from Denmark? I've heard it's fairly easy to do it overland but I'm yet to try it! Next on my long haul overland trips from Brussels is to Valencia 🇪🇸🥰 really looking forward to no airport bullshit hahaha

The Problem is, train tickets are more expensive than flights, because there is a tax on electricity but fossil fuels are tax free.😢 We have to change this!

If my area had a public transportation system, I would make the time to take it, even if it takes twice as long to get to my destination.

for real. I'll have to travel from Denmark to Italy every summer in the future, and it's disappointing how the cheapest way is the plane... I'm still looking for a better solution tho :/
