I’ve seen several videos on this, and I keep coming back to one thing—there needs to be some way to *bow* the tines. Either make the top curved and not flat so you can use a violin bow, or…I guess I am envisioning something like a buffing wheel rubbed in rosin and attached to a drill. Not sure why I keep fixating on this idea—probably because I like doing this sort of thing with sampled plucks, turning them into bowed sounds.

Interesting how they took the initial keyboard concept in more of a drum machine direction... hoping they also make a slightly larger keyboard oriented version as well. I do like the idea of building your own scales, though. Very cool!
