I got the Sonic Controlled Land Speeder on Christmas of 79. Mine must have been a fluke cause it actually held up quite well. The electronics still worked when I traded it off for some newer POTF toys in an idiot!! I still cringe at the thought of trading it.

My neighbor had one. I had the standard "push" one. I liked mine better because it wasn't so bulky and just seemed easier to use, and therefore was more fun. I still have mine and am sure he has his (I still know him) because he kept all his stuff and most of the boxes. His kids played with most of that stuff, his parents told me.

not good to drive it down the road in front of your house and into the creek either. lol

If they wanted to make the Retro Collection truly awesome they would re-release this toy!! I want to go get a Route 44 drink from Sonic just looking at it!

Top piece! This was given to me with no remote back in 1980. You could just clap your hands for the vehicle to respond - no remote needed.

I passed on the R2 remote today at a toy show. I figured it should have had an antenna so it didn't look like a good deal to me.... now I know differently. I don't have the speeder but still would have been cool to have.

I had one, but like most of my "electronic" toys I didn't use the electronics long. My parents were too cheap to keep batteries stockpiled in the house.

I still have mine from when I was a kid. It’s siting on my shelf as we speak. I didn’t play with it much and it still worked the last time I put batteries in it a few years ago. This makes me want to get it down and check it again. Thanks for sharing.

The way you describe this thing, I’m glad I only had the standard landspeeder

I had one of these as a kid. Got it at a thrift store back in the 80's. I didn't know it had a controller. I just remembered using the battery compartment to put stuff in

That Stormtrooper line was a nice treat. LOL

I never had it, but one of my friends did. We all thought it was really cool, definitely better than the one I had that you had to push, even though it was pretty difficult to control. At least we thought that for about a week. That's about how long he had it before his little brother accidentally drove it off their front porch and it never worked again. 😄

I had the regular one. My first vehicle actually. The floaty suspension fascinated me. I'd push it down the driveway or tile floors and it would glide smooth like a Cadillac.
I'll bet the problem with the remote one was hair & fuzz jamming up the drive wheel.

I think I had this version of the Landspeeder, but like most of the early Star Wars toys that I had, it was second-hand. I never had the R2-D2 clicker thing and never saw it in working condition. (I guess it's POSSIBLE the one I had worked and I just didn't have the clicker thing, but if it is as fragile as you say, then the one I had probably never worked during the time I owned it.)

I got this version for Christmas 79. The thing didn't last long. First thing that broke off was the plastic bubble windshield. after that it just didn't want to move anymore. but it was fun while it lasted. Ended up also getting the regular one.

I remember as a kid, watching some kind of Satire Skit (SNL or Late night Monologue) Where they show a clip of ROTJ where Luke Han & Chewie are caught by the Ewoks and Luke asks Han to "reach for his LightSaber" But when he tries, they do a close up and he pulls "Lifesavers Candy" from his pocket. I remember this vividly! Is it me, or does this exist? Anyone else know about this? Junkman???

I can’t imagine how many of these I’ve seen in the garage sales when I was a kid in the 80s
