The PAUart platform, being an initiative supporting the activity of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences for development and popularization of culture and science, aims to provide the Internet users with resources belonging to the Polish heritage as well as to the collected by Poles resources belonging to the world's cultural heritage. In addition to the Krakow iconographic collections of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, the resources of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Historical and Literary Society in Paris are also made available. Graphics, drawings, watercolours, photographs, and in the near future also paintings and sculptures, are stored in the Print Room and Special Collections of the Academic Library of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow, Lanckoroński Phototheca of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Archives of the Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences in Krakow and the Polish Library in Paris.
Following the principles of the Openness Policy, items are made available in the public domain, with the possibility of downloading the digital image of the work (without watermarks and other technical limitations), saving it on the user's disk and using it for the user’s own purposes. Digitalized items in high definition used for scientific purposes, including publications, are also made available free of charge.
The catalogue will be gradually developed and enriched with subsequent works. Currently, the platform consists of 26,000 items, but eventually 300,000 will be made available. We hope that thanks to the openness policy, the shared resource will contribute to the development of scientific research in many areas, both in Poland and in the world, and will be used for educational purposes, inspiring art lovers for its creative use.
The implementation of the PAUart project is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Lanckoroński Foundation and the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences’ own funds.
