FIRE On The Isle Of Skye! Life In Our 1840s Cottage - Ep65

Willie, Sarah and their dogs Jack Spaniels & new puppy, Nori continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.

In this episode, the Skye Lifers take a look at the aftermath of the fires that recently lit up the night sky across the island - finding out how they spread out of control and just how close they got to people's homes.

Plus - more seemingly simple jobs on Yolanda, our Landrover Defender, turn out to be more difficult than we hoped and Sarah is again in search of her elusive quarry - the otter that sometimes appears outside our cottage in the sea loch below...but will she find it this time?!

Here's to Willie for his ongoing quest to completely refurbish Miss Yolanda and to Sarah for her wire identification skills! Always love to hear educational info about living on Skye, too! Thanks for another great video, you two! Hugs & pats to Jack & Nori! 🥰

Love Richard he reminds me of either a hobbit or a gnome with his cute face and facial hair. He is such a good neighbor. He is magic and comes to help every time you get into trouble Willie.

1. What, no Richard in the end credits? (Richard - himself...)
2. Fires - in the south of France where I live, wildfires are a big problem (for houses) but interestingly, for the land, it recovers pretty quickly and nature soon makes sure that regrowth happens quickly. Not a reason to discard cigarettes though, obviously!
3. Otters or seals, I couldn't see, but either way it was beautiful
4. Yes, indeed, Willie should keep jumping off camera like a bunny, chipmunk, or whatever. It is hilarious!
5. Sarah is like Mary Poppins - practically perfect in every way!

Hello Again ☺. Not shiney or fluid enough for otters, definitely young seals. My late husband Terry and I have watched many otters back in the 80s and 90s on Skye and when you do finally see them you will know the difference.
Sending love, light and bright blessings to you both and the fur babies 🐶🐾🐾🐕 xx

Sarah’s eyesight is a treasure, that’s why she’s such an incredible artist - of course she can see minuscule amounts of color and render the perfect electrical diagram 😎

That was otterly amazing! I'm pretty sure those were 2 otters mating - it is Spring, after all!
I remember seeing the beautiful 1969 film- 'Ring Of Bright Water' (you can watch it free on youtube)- about the artist and writer, Gavin Maxwell, who ended up living on Skye - and there is a scene in that film, where Mij his pet otter is frolicking and splashing in the loch, just like that, with a wild female otter. They are such playful animals. What a magical way to start your day.

I hear that millions of years ago, Scotland's mountains were once part of our Blue Ridge Mountains. It seems strange that a week after Skye's mountains were on fire that our local Blue Ridge Mountains were ablaze. Crazy winds ignited long dead controlled burn piles. Our County is also volunteer firefighters, and they fought like never before. Grateful to the firefighters worldwide. They're a unique breed and brave beyond all belief.

Otters (of course they were otters, as David Attenborough told us as well... 😉) are clearly signalling: spring is coming.😊

More lovely time spent watching your lifestyle.
You are experiencing and learning so much .
Richard is the best kind of friend sharing his extensive knowledge and skills with you. He's a "pay it forward " kind of guy bless him.
As you probably know here in Australia we live with the worst kind of bush fires. It really is imperative to learn how to be fire ready and have an evacuation plan.
Thanks for sharing the footage and info on Skye's situation.
Cheers.

Nice to see Richard again. 🤟

I'm glad that the fire stopped before it got to your place!
