Michael Jackson was awesome even as a kid. Great performer singer dancer and also wrote songs. I love him too and he had vocal coaching intensively with Seth Riggs that we know about so he sure worked on technique all his life.
It is interesting that Elton John also has had lots of vocal coaching it has been revealed. Wonderful video Freya

Listen, for example, to his non-verbal vocalizations--the cries, exclamations, grunts, gasps, and improvisatory vernacular--in which Jackson communicates beyond the strictures of language. Listen to his beat boxing and scatting; how he stretches or accents words; his staccato facility; the way his voice moves from gravelly to smooth to sublime; the passionate calls and responses; the way he soars just as naturally with gospel choirs and electric guitars.

Listen to his virtuosic rhythms and rich harmonies; the nuanced syncopation and signature bass lines; the layers of detail and archive of unusual sounds. Go beyond the usual classics, and play songs like "Stranger in Moscow, " "I Can't Help It , " "Liberian Girl , " "Who Is It, " and "In the Back." Note the range of subject matter, the spectrum of moods and textures, the astounding variety (and synthesis) of styles. On the Dangerous album alone, Jackson moves from New Jack Swing to classical, hip hop to gospel, R&B to industrial, funk to rock. It was music without borders or barriers, and it resonated across the globe.

Michael Jackson is a great example. That's motivating in its self. I think it would be easy to try to copy him. Thank you for sharing.

I’m so glad you did this video, but you need to demonstrate and explain how it’s done instead of talking about. It’s obvious he has a great support.

as a massive MJ fan, his voice did deteriorate over time. He pushed himself exceptionally hard on the Bad Tour. Somewhere at the start of the second leg of that tour he started to suffer from pushing himself too hard. It was also around this time that some of his harder songs he began to mime. While recording his underrated song Keep the Faith around 1990, his voice cracked for the first time in his life and he was no longer able to hit those crazy notes he could. During Dangerous Tour, around 40-45% was actually playback. During the HIStory tour only around 15 minutes of live mic singing was done. He did start to prefer a more raspy and aggressive vocal style from the Bad Era on, and I think that did have a negative effect on his voice. He could still sing wonderfully when he really focused but his strong clean high range vocals did suffer immensely from the stress and strain he put on it, not to mention his age and his copious health issues, specifically his constant chronically inflamed lungs.

So what to do if you WANT to sound like Joe Cocker, and do NOT want to sound like Mickael Jackson?

I also think Michael”s voice is more at the front in the mid area, right behind the bridge of the nose.
