I feel like it's the same skill, approached from different points in the timeline. It is maintaining proportion. It's moderation.

This is so true. Most people cant handle a lot of money, thats why huge lottery winners usually either they go insane or broke or both.
People dont realise that having a lot of money is having a of responsability on your hands and how it can shake the mind of those who are not prepared for it.

I am not rich, but inherit some money already and unfortunately, this comment talks from experience 😢

Exactly... having so much and not wasting resources is something that's called learning being responsible...

I agree with the girl. I went to a college with rich kids and i was the one who ended up teaching (so many of)them finance. All they knew was how to spend and then i taught them about investing and saving. Their rich parents literally made them lazy and spendthrift. The rich guys were only attracting gold diggers instead of high value women. And the rich girls had no depth and most suffered from depression. They didn’t read books like their parents do neither did they know about history, art, architecture or literature. They are still good friends and they thank me for introducing them to lot of stuffs and i thank them for the “rich” exposure. There were handful few who were rich yet hard-working and polished.

Obviously they should study accounting and finance if they are to manage liquid resources well. Doesn’t matter so much about low or high as much as conception of resources and objectives and matching such well using careful forethought, if needed.

All I know is I'm constantly running up against the problem of trying to live within my grand budget in my life.

Tight Budget vs Grand Budget

Nice.

Start with the tight budget.

Then gradually increase their budget to Grand Budget

Teach your children to appreciate everything for it could all be gone in a moment. Comfort but earn it, they are precious but so us everyone else.

I think kids, as in underage kids, are not mature enough to handle big budget, so I agree with her about being stricter. However, once they are old enough to be considered responsible on their own life, giving a grand budget to support their project is good.

Interesting perspectives, worth considering

What he said about letting the kids have free reign does teach so much about responsibility. They're gonna feel comfortable having too much that they won't want more. Ideally, this will have them discipline themselves because they will feel contented.

I could only imagine the opposite to be like a dog trapped inside a cage with a growing scarcity mindset on when they'll be free. And then they do, they go wild

Parenting is so scary :s (source: I was a child once, although not a rich one)

a kid is smart, it will figure out how to get to parents money one way or the other and will go and spend it on their favourite toy and even be able to convince a shop assistant to believe that it’s a legitimate money. It’s important for parents to gain trust of their kids and speak about kids’ desires and wishes, also ask hypothetical questions on how the kid would divide their budget based on what priorities and also develop their long term thinking as kids think about their immediate needs and desires without considering their tomorrow’s affairs when they are young. Another way is to ask a kid to manage a certain budget position for their little sibling or for a birthday event, make a cost plan together gradually adding more complexity to it.

The clip at the end is from Born Rich. The interview I'm not sure if that's also from that doc.

Better to teach by having them learn it by themselves at a very early age so they don’t blow their much larger monies when they get it later on in life! If they learn the lessons at an early age, they are much wealthier after that!😊
