One hundred percent agree on the list. I’m 64 and I have gotten rid of nearly all my costume jewelry. If I’m going out it’s generally gold hoops, pearls (and I inherited a pair of black pearls including necklace which are stunning) or diamond studs. And I wear these out with friends, to concerts with jeans just about anywhere. After all these years of being afraid to wear them I now love them! (And I do like Monica Vinador)

Basic, timeless pieces are always a good idea. However, one can find quality items for less than $100 or even $50 that will hold up for years. I have never purchased an item of clothing over $100. And I’ve had items that are older than my son who is turning 17 next week. You don’t have to spend a lot, but you do need to look at how it’s made.
