Trompe Animation [PDC preview]

A trompe can trap air underground for use in workshops or aerating fish ponds. Falling 30 to 100 meters vertically from input water through a reverse air cone Venturi input, water will move at velocity faster than the air bubbles can rise, so that these air bubbles can be released into an air chamber. Water can then rise out from a well surrounding the fall pipe, up to 85% of the way back to its source, where it can be released or introduced to another fall system from more compressed air.

About Geoff:

Geoff is a world-renowned permaculture consultant, designer, and teacher that has established demonstration sites that function as education centers in all the world's major climates. Geoff has dedicated his life to spreading permaculture design across the globe and inspiring people to take care of the earth, each other and to return the surplus.

About Permaculture:

Permaculture integrates land, resources, people, and the environment through mutually beneficial synergies – imitating the no-waste, closed-loop systems seen in diverse natural systems. Permaculture applies holistic solutions that are applicable in rural and urban contexts and at any scale. It is a multidisciplinary toolbox including agriculture, water harvesting and hydrology, energy, natural building, forestry, waste management, animal systems, aquaculture, appropriate technology, economics, and community development.

I've seen Bill's (Rest in peace sir) lecture on this. Between that clip and this one there really isn't a lot to find about the subject. People need to know this stuff! Thanks, Geoff;)

Yesterday i started falling in the rabbit hole of trying to find more infos about those concepts. It is really strange how little information is to be found about this subject. Thank you for making a video about it.

Thanks for the great video! I'm just wondering where the pipe goes after the trompe? Marvelous.. Keep it coming please

I would like to see this in practice - a living example.

Hi Geoff. Could the compressed air be used for air conditioning? If you were using it for air conditioning is there a way to get the 15% or more lift to get it back to top of the original tank to make it a recycled water tromp?

Looks good in theory but when put in practice it works better than expected. The air is very dry, unlike compressor-driven air pumps. The water is no more polluted coming out of the trompe than going in. The air is no more polluted coming out than going in. There are no moving parts, nothing to wear out. What the trompe needs is some scientific measuring done so hydro and aerodynamic engineers have formulas to work with. Until this is done and widely published the trompe will not be used in civil engineering projects.

Have you built one of these Geoff? I’d like to see it working:-)

Hi Geoff, you're doing an amazing work keep ging like that.

I have a question; what do you think about sodium polyacrylate, I have seen a mexican (Sergio Rico) who is using it in areas with water problems, as he says it is not soluble in water, what do you think about it?

I hope you see my question if someone else does know something about it I would appreciate some knowleage about these issue. Thank you

Wouldn't the water/air down pipe be filled to the level of the larger water up and out pipe stopping the process? I love the concept of these is there any homestead sized units out there?

What about combining this with a hydraulic ram pump and putting the water round in a circle? Thanks for the video Geoff.

this system is very good when you have a river stream, how about direct to fish pond, i still not understand this module.

I would like automatic legends in your videos please. This will help me a lot! Thanks from Brazil!

Isn't it the same principle as RAM pumps ? (Pompe à marteau d'eau in French). Check it out if you're interested ! It seems easy and cheap to build.

Glenn Martinez out of Olomana Gardens in Hawaii built a trompe pump. Videos on YouTube check him out.

Looks like the inside of a pyramid to me.

Seems like this is why they built the pyramids.

I don't like this illustration of a trompe, I think Bill Mollison's chalkboard illustration was clearer.
It's amazing to me why clean energy groups aren't all over this! Less so energy corporations as, once the infrastructure and machinery is in place, it's virtually free energy. I can even imagine individual houses with their own generators producing all their electrical needs. As Bill showed, cars, etc. could all be be using compressed air as a total or partial power source and with more research and developement comes better machinery, etc.

*Let me know how much that costs when you get it
