Elijah Churchill of the 2nd Regiment of Light Dragoons was with Tallmadge in the attack on Fort George and Fort Slongo on Long Island. He received the Honorary Badge of Military Merit from George Washington. He was an ancestor from the Connecticut Branch of the Churchill family.
