Chromebook cloudprint Canon printer offline FIX

This video shows a fix using a chromebook and a Canon MX922 printer. The printer works fine, however it will not remain 'online' with google cloudprint.

By resetting the DNS server it communicates with Google and brings the printer back online for cloudprint.

Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this fix. I have had this issue with my MX925 for the last two years, and even Canon's long winded advice about creating fixed IPs failed to address the issue of the printer going offline with Google cloudprint. I had all but given up, and had learned to accept the fact that the printer couldn't be used reliably with cloudprint. Yes, I knew how to temporarily get it back online, but sooner or later it would annoyingly drop out again. Suffice to say I tried your simple fix, and am thrilled to say that it appears to have cured the problem. You wonderful man! Thank you!

I have Windows 7 and struggled with this. I did your fix and my printer printed instantly. It may help others to know that this can happen if your ink jets get too low, so when the low ink comes on, get those new cartridges in there! Thank you Thank you!

Excellent info on this widespread problem. Gave you props in my Amazon review of the printer. Thanks!

Thanks. Great tip. This has been driving me nuts. I eventually installed a remote control power switch to reset the printer remotely. But this is easier.

To be precise, how did you "reset" the google cloud print page?

This really helped but I can only print by manually following your instruction on my printer each time I need to print.
Could you please tell me what you did to change the status from offline to online on your chromebook as it is not clear in the video.  Thx so much.

Darn it! Your video is perfect. I also have a Canon Pixma922 and I love it. Can print wirelessly no problem. I followed your instructions exactly and it still says "Offline." Thing is, if I have to do this every time, i.e. reset the printer, reboot the computer, why bother with cloud printing? Why not just go to the bother of uploading the document to the PC and printing it off wirelessly? Great video, though, thanks! I'll keep tinkering.

I had a canon pixma mx322 it was doing the same thing as yours when I went to print it said the printer is offline so I did the same thing you did went over and connected it back up to the internet and then it would print for five minutes then go back offline sooner or later I got tired of it and gave it away I was tired of not being able to print when I needed and I got a hp officejet 6600 never had that problem with it when it was doing it though the canon I thought it was my slow internet connection but no if it was then my hp would do it to I think there is something wrong with the internet chip inside the canon pixma printers but good video though

Thanks! I set my DNS to Google's public IPs, no issues now.

Did not work for me (I have the same Canon printer). What did work was doing a firmware update on the Canon.

so is this a permanent fix or will it go back to offline after some time?

Could anybody please tell me how to "reset"? I still don't know how to do that.

It doesn't seem like this fix is "permanent".  But instead you need to do this from time to time.

One thing to explore is whether there is not a permanent fix by just giving your printer a "static" (fixed) IP address inside your house rather than a "dynamic" one that is automatically assigned by the router each time the printer is turned on.  Your router probably assigns internal addresses in the format of 192.168.1.XXX or 10.0.0.XXX .

Changing our Brother printer to static IP address has allowed the Google Cloud printing to work flawlessly ever since.  We haven't need to touch it since.

Just a thought...

NOT FIXED

Yes, it works each time you do it, until it happens again ... and again ... and again ...

So does choosing cloud print from the printer's menu and telling the printer to connect and look for new jobs.

BUT the printer will go offline again, so it's not fixed.
