He was a great character actor. He added to every scene he was in because he had credibility. He was the town homeless man or drunk in westerns. He was the cook at the campfire on cattle drives. He always knew the hero. We wouldn’t have depth to our movies if we didn’t have actors like him. He could also drive the stagecoach. And play cards. It took job skills to be a character actor.

His son played ‘Newly’ on Gunsmoke’ and ‘Turkey Creek Johnson’ in the movie Tombstone. I’ve seen Dub in many movies and he is one among many great character actors in the Western genre. RIP DUB!
