This is a fully high definition copy of Harry Pollard's drama, starring Margarita Fischer and James Lowe. I do not own the rights to the film, nor am I profiting from it.

Saw this on TV, channel 9 as a child in 1960 and it definitely impacted me. MYSTERIOUSLY, was not shown on TV for decades.

It is a shame that George died before sound came to be and the world of cinema never got to hear his voice.

Why is it still taking humankind so long to live together in harmony and peace?
Love this movie because it shows how long I can remember in a life time to see the same things at different times throughout the years….
And I wonder why it’s taking us so long just to be kinder and respectful to our other mankind regardless. Live in harmony on piece among selves.

To any Indians watching, this was Bhagat Singh's favourite movie in addition to general Charlie Chaplin films.

... just when you think a movie is going to be faithful to the story of the book... What a deception ... It's a whole new story. That's why we have always to read the book attentively first!😮

I think this may be the "sound version" released in 1928. It's the same film as the silent version, just it has a syncronized score and sound effects.

I first saw this earlier this year on TCM and fell in love with it. Topsy had me cry laughing. I love the George/Eliza/Harry Harris family story... so beautiful.

I'm confused.. Why are Eliza and George white? They're supposed to be black. 😢

Stowe was an anti-slavery advocate, but not for free; blacks should be Christian. In this filmic version, one more time slavery is codemned, but, reading the book, I never thought of Eliza, George and Harry as white (at least, that's how they look to me in this film).
