This is so cool. I've been trying to parse json into object types for one of my projects and this will simplify that. I also see flexibility in using this in transaction event queues.

Thank you. Just one comment. I am increasingly confused about where the syntax is taking us. For example that "RETURNING" clause in an argument to what looks like a function. What exactly is the data type of that second argument here: "json_value(j, '$' returning dept_row)". When I learned Shell, or C or vi, there was a clearly understood pattern that made sense. With Oracle, I think the syntax is evolving like a cancer.
