The most iconic crown icon I've ever seen in a game

ProStreet was soo damn good. Too bad it was received so poorly by many people back in the day because it ditched open world illegal street racing.
It still is and always will be one of my favorite racing games of all time, the intro still gives me goosebumps

Everyone who hated on ProStreet on its release needs to apologize

It's been 15 years and no EA studio has managed to even come close to ProStreet's art direction. That game was so ahead of its time it's insane.

I like how you made the music in unbound look comical and pathetic by putting it alongside prostreet (because it is), well done, I had quite a laugh.

Jesus the contrast between the soundtrack of these two games.

It hurts knowing EA crunched Black Box Studios to death with yearly releases. Most of the games, though really well made in their own leagues, were left incomplete, like NFS MW's heat levels 6-10 or Undercover in general.

It's crazy to see how this game went from being hated to a cult classic to one of the most popular games from the series

To this day, I still make Pro Street wraps. And just like Most Wanted this game left an impression on me as a kid.

Most of the Graffiti designs you see in Unbound all leads back to Pro Street.

This game is the epitome of bad timing.

I do not give a shit about its bad reception. It deserves praise.

ProStreet was a risky move. In a nutshell, an experiment nobody asked for. BlackBox had consolidated Need For Speed's identity around the early 2000s import scene, and shifting away from it so abruptly while the saga was arguably at its peak was ambitious. Maybe too much for its own good.

ProStreet's biggest mistake is its name. In 2007 people associated the franchise with illegal street racing, cop chases, arcade driving physics, a general ram-fest. Not closed-circuit simcades with damage systems. The concept was fantastic, and I genuinely believe if it had been a spin-off (as in the case of Forza) it would've been well received by the fanbase.

It's an immensely charming game. Every inch is bursting with flashy banners, corny microphone commentary and an ubiquitous vibe of exuberance.

Personally, apart from the other stuff, what makes ProStreet's gameplay stand out to me is its sense of speed. It's maniacal. Mental. So much so that even the starter shitboxes feel blisteringly fast. Finishing the breakneck Nevada stages without wrapping the car around a street pole is an unexplainably rewarding sensation. Races were an adrenaline rush and always had me on the edge of my seat.

All in all, not the best NFS of all time, sure. It's plagued with flaws, but the core product is so utterly brilliant I was willing to overlook them.

Remember: BlackBox developed 3 whole ass games that year. Namely, Skate, NBA Street Homecourt, and our beloved ProStreet. I reiterate: they had, and I cannot stress this enough, a SINGLE year of development for 3 completely different games (even more impressive considering Skate's caliber). Just another usual EA blunder, where a diamond in the rough was prematurely pumped out for the sake of profit; which, lo and behold, irreversibly ruined what had potential for greatness. It's agonizing to see how so much hard work goes to waste because of their greed and negligence. ProStreet was left to die.

I really hope this game gets a remake someday. It deserves a second chance.

I can’t help but feel like I’m in the minority of those who honestly liked ProStreet when it first came out! Behind OG Most Wanted, this is the sequel I’d most want to see.
