My father-in-law was a member of a biker gang. He's got a leather jacket with a big "PHARAOHS" patch on the back. They didn't really do any criminal stuff. They just did Poker Runs every Spring, when the weather started getting nice. The police came and broke them up, because the Hell's Angels came through and stirred up a bunch of trouble.

Also: My cousin was a Marine, and got shot in the face in Afghanistan. At his funeral, a biker gang volunteered to keep protestors out, because for some reason, people come out to protest military funerals, in California.

Fighter here, as a hobby and competitive. I’m actually a big pacifist when not fighting and in all combat sports there are rules on excessive force. There’s a difference between competition and trying to actually harm someone. So it’s not a great sign if someone is pulled for that.

I grew up in Hamilton Ontario, this was a brilliant episode! Wow that's crazy that you covered this. Hamilton has always had a crime problem. You could probably find even more to cover. Especially about the Hells Angels and the Mob families you mentioned earlier on. It was always a biker and Mob city. Thanks for this one!

Hearing Simon ask if people advertise being part of Hell's Angels makes me think of my childhood. I was born and lived near San Fransisco in a...less than upscale suburb (for the time) when I was really young, and there was a Hell's Angel chapter literally down the street from the house I lived in.
Funnily enough, my mother always spoke well of the Hell's Angels, telling me that the chapter kept the local crime down and made the area 'safer' for kids. They brought free beer for an event since a member was a truck driver for a beer company until he got shot and killed. Basically, while everybody was terrified of making them angry, everyone also found them comforting?
