I also think this apology was a way to say to the world that Jada had nothing to do with this. We all saw WS laugh out loud at the joke but when he saw Jada's expression he knew the Hell he would go through later. If Chris never wants to speak to him again I don't blame him. He was publicly humiliated in front of millions of people. Chris handled the situation like a pro. WS hurt himself more than anyone because his 1st Oscar win will always be tarnished by what he did.

"Nuances and complexities"? He assaulted someone on live TV! Then partied the night away like nothing had happened. Nope, no accountability.

I agree with Chris: "Everybody is trying to be a f***ing victim. If everybody claims to be a victim, then nobody will hear the real victims, ” Rock said Friday night, per CNN. "Even me getting smacked by Suge Smith ... I went to work the next day, I got kids." This was Chris' reaction to Will's video.
Two things that should not have happened that night after Will's violence - support by peers in the room, Will on stage later to accept award. He should have been escorted from the building straight away.

An apology requires humility. Something Will lacks.

When I heard Will apologizing at this late date I knew it was for his own benefit! He is trying to promote himself! He doesn’t care a hoot about Chris Rock in my opinion!

the first part of him discussing how he reached out to Chris but Chris is not ready, to me it sounded like Will was saying, "I am trying to apologize to Chris but he doesn't want to even talk to me, so....I AM THE VICTIM"...an attempt to make Christ look like bad, but it didn't work

THE NARCISSIST WAS ONLY PROMOTING HIMSELF THERE IS NOT A SORRY BONE IN HIS BODY

He doesn’t accept responsibility or feel that he was wrong.

I’ve never liked Will Smith. He always struck me as egotistical and his wife and kids are a mess too. His wife is particularly vile.

The fact that he is so worried about feeling shame that he can't and won't even consider the whole picture of what he did and why it was wrong but rather continues to attempt to justify it ... tells me all I need to know about him. Protecting his ego from the feeling of "shame", as he calls it, is his number one priority. All the rest is just a word salad. Dude! Just say you are truly remorseful and sorry for your childish lack of emotional control ... and then just shut up.

Brilliant analysis, Don Jesus! "Celebrities" came out of the woodwork to comment on the incident, but the media approached some people who would not have weighed in otherwise. My favourite was Ricky Gervais. He said that he would never have made a joke about Jada's lack of hair. He would have made a joke about her boyfriend! 😂

I get the sense that Will thought he could do what he did to Chris and just be 'goofy Will' like he's always portrayed himself to be, but like with a lot of narcissists who never ever see their behavior for what it is (selfish and disrespectful), it eventually comes out in the open and shows them for who they really are. Honestly, I'm quite glad this happened because now Chris can finally be rid of a terrible set of 'friends' like Will and Jada. His behavior was immature and embarrassing, and honestly I've lost a lot of respect for him.

Disrespect! What a fool. I think he really thinks what he did was just fine. He should be ashamed of himself but he never will be.

I can't with this guy. Releasing this video after MONTHS was even worse than not doing anything. Why couldn't he just stay away from the word salad and simply say "Chris, I'm really sorry. I understand you don't want to talk to me. What I did was unacceptable" etc., you get the idea. Imagine if this slap happened at a meeting at your workplace or mine. I bet the person would get fired, have charges pressed against them, or at the very least demoted, or suspended. Heck, even at school. This man and Hollywood as a whole is a joke, they're a bunch of uncivilized hypocrites.

Honestly, I am speechless how many people fell for this scripted promo by Will Smith to get back his movie roles. The studio, clothing, script, the emotions it was all fake

His apology was a non apology, it was all about himself. A really comprehensive analysis.

I am SO tired of celebrities "apologizing" in order to minimize the damage they've done to their careers. I've been watching them do it for 50 YEARS! I can almost tell you verbatim what their management and PR people have scripted for them to say. For all the times Jimmy Swaggart's "I have sinned!" declaration has been mocked and joked about I'm thinking we could use some of that kind of thing these days. But those were very different times.
Thanks for your insights again, Jesus. You don't just interpret things well but you help keep our feet in the basics of right and wrong. 👍✝🇨🇦❤ BTW. LOVE the tie. Great color for you. 🙂👔

It's like saying, "oh, Cris, I forgive you for making me feel bad about what I did to you".

To quote Elaine Benes (Julia Louis Dreyfuss) in Seinfeld, "fake, fake, fake, fake, fake!" And to say he was "foggy" & "fuzzy" during his acceptance speech?! Nope. Narcissists are world famous for word salads & not making a damn bit of sense.

I knew the "apology" was 100% fake; and I noticed the W on his hat & thought it might be a product he sells; but I never noticed the water bottle (Jaden produces it) till someone commented about it. It's bad enough to make this video, but then the cold bloodedness of choosing where to place their items for maximum effect, because they're wanting to profit from the "please forgive me" video. The clothes looked like he just walked in from the golf course; and this video made him look like even more of a narcissistic a**hole than he already did with the assault on CR.
