In this edition of #thedailydoug, I'm returning to music from Metallica. The Outlaw Torn is from their album Load, and I think this is the first time I'm hearing any of their music from that album. The performance I'm hearing is from S&M1, performed with the San Francisco Orchestra. I hope you enjoy!

This performance elevated the song to a completely different level. Same with Bleeding Me.

RIP Michael Kamen. This concert was his idea and is his legacy in the metal music.
The Outlaw Torn is one of the hidden gems of Metallica (pure thrashers don't give a f about it, but their loss). From Load album, I like "Until it Sleeps", "King Nothing", "Bleeding Me", "Mama Said", "Hero of the Day" and "Ain't My b1tch", apart for The Outlaw Torn.

S&M is probably one of the best live records ever. Does not get a bit old.

12:19 Jason rocking out with the orchestra's double bassist. Love it! Miss that dude in Metallica.

As a depressed teenager with no ability to communicate my feelings this was one of my favorite songs to blast to drown out the world and also feel like my feelings could somehow come out. Even if the lyrics didn't exactly line up with my circumstances this felt like and exorcism of sorts of my inner demons. Thanks Metallica!

No leaf clover should be the next Metallica Monday reaction. Along with -Human, they were both written for the collection collaboration with the SF symphony orchestra

I'm so glad you're doing the first S&M. This version is miles better than the 2019 version.

One of kirks best solos. Just fits perfect.

Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me are by far the best tracks on the Load album

As someone who started with the cello at age 10 and then graduated to guitar and heavy metal, I have always loved this combo of symphony and Metallica. Underrated song, too.

All of the first S&M Concert is worthy of your insights. "The Call of Ktulu", "Bleeding Me" and "Until It Sleeps" would be right up your alley...as would "No Leaf Clover"

Load Is such underrated work. So intense, so full of emotions. They have been so hated for slowing down songs and leaving thrash behind but they were simply trying to do something new and they did in a Great way. Load Is a masterpiece.

I think its their best S+M performance. Also, best vocals. Thanks for making me appreciate it even more.

The intro into “Call of Ktulu” into “Master of Puppets” at the beginning of this concert is sensational. Worth checking out.

5:32 "It's kinda 'bluesy'."
Yes, yes it is.
Both albums, Load and Reload, have got Kirk's touch literally throughout.

They got a lot of hate for the albums when they first came out, and gasp, cut their hair.
But both albums are musically excellent.

This is the best version of the song and one of my top five Metallica songs. When Kirk hits the solo three seconds in or stop and the wha opens up, it sounds like a scream of anguish and longing. It’s one of my favorite Kirk moments. So powerful. Thanks for covering it.

James has experienced loss in his life and the fact that we still have Metallica is close to a miracle. It has been touch and go there a couple of times and the boys have all the money in the world. Financially they don't need to do this, but mentally they do... It is their burden and savior in one breath... Their beast and their outlet. There is so much poured into these songs that you can't help but feel it... Feel it.

This song is one of my favorites and this version is unbelievable. James's vocals are so on point.

"For whom the bell tolls" and "Devils dance" with the orchestra are other Metallica songs that deserves a Doug reaction!!! 🤟🎹
