Let's face it we have all installed the cleats wrong at home and caused knee pain. This video goes to show how to set them up properly at home to get cleats mounted and miles pedaled. Keep in mind this is no replacement for a true cleat fitting by a bike shop fitter so tread lightly and listen to your body so you don't injure yourself.

This blew me away. Probably the most succinct explanation of proper adjustment. Following the info in this video I alleviated a ton of issues. Turns out my cleats were nearly a full inch forward of where they should be - and my feet were suffering horribly for it. By the end of a 20 mile ride my feet were sore and the toes were numb. Now all of that pain is gone. Amazing how one simple adjustment changes the whole experience.

Having been in Radiology for 12 years now, I can undoubtedly say that this is the most well thought out and proper setup I could ever imagine. I very much appreciate you.

For many years I dealt with numbness and knee pain, I thought those were issues I had to deal with. Last week I stumbled into your video and decided to try your method. Whoa no more knee pain or foot numbness! Thank you for the help.

Thank you SO much for posting this! I am trying clipless pedals for the first time ever (after 37 years of Mountain Biking) and I was pretty nervous about it, but this guide got me spot-on, first time. I got the Crank Brothers Candy one pedals, and after following your tutorial, everything worked out perfectly! I went out on my usual training loop this morning, and I now can't believe I waited so long to go clipless.

Great video. I'm on my first pair of cycling shoes. I checked a lot of my favourite bike channels and this was the best explainer I found. Using a straight edge to get an idea of where the cleat is going to be was the really helpful hint I was looking for. Thanks.

I have just got some cleats for the first tome and it soon become apparent setup wasn't just screw them into the bottom of the shoe. Thank you for such a stirght forward & simple video on how to do this.

Super helpful! I’ve only ever ridden with tennis shoes so this is a completely new experience and I don’t even know what I don’t know. I appreciate your thorough explanation!

Thanks for the thorough explanation on position. As a newbie to cleats I had no idea where to even begin to position them, so thank you!!

Thanks for the information. Finally someone who tells where to set up the it done according to other videos and my hip and knees hurt like crazy at times, or my left toes would fall asleep.

This is great info. But I always set my float (rotational alignment) so that the inward float (heels in) stops just before my shoes make contact with my chain stays when the cranks are pointed aft. The degrees of total float are enough to accommodate any difference in my natural foot angle. I don’t see a need to tune that per foot as long as your natural foot position falls within the float range.

Thanks for the video. I always new there was a right way, but I never knew how to do it. I used to just take a wild guess and it's no wonder I had knee pain.

Outstanding summary and demo. I learned a lot about proper fitting that I didn't know and that will make my ride (and foot pain) much better.

Thank you so much for this tutorial on proper alignment of the cleats. I as well had my cleats too far on my tarsals instead of the metatarsals. I will be testing the new position of my cleats this eve when I teach my spin class!

Thanks for this. Came across this useful video and wasn’t even looking for it!
Just ordered new pair of gravel shoes and will definitely set them up properly. I’ve always just screwed them on and hit the road…didn’t know it was so important. Thanks👍

This video was helpful when I installed the cleats on my bike shoes for my Echelon bike. The ergonomic segment about how to measure the rotation of the legs/foot helped me as I have sensitive knees. Thanks
