“We thought Manny Pacquiao was great. He’s better than we thought.” My favorite Larry Merchant quote of all time.

I miss this kind of boxing, especially with HBO coverage and their announcers, Merchant, Lederman and Lamply. You can really tell they're Pacman's fans since they saw him fight first time on US against Ledwaba. Even one couldn't pronounce his name right. These kinds of fights are really worth watching over and over again in lockdown.

8:32 "Wife and son, blank stares." Cotto Jr. then proceeds to flash peace signs on both hands with a smile on his face. Love that dude.

This is the best performance I've ever seen in a boxing ring. Those that know Pacquiao will know that he took it easy during this fight, gave Cotto free shots all through the fight and still dominated a Hall of Fame fighter like Miguel Cotto. Cotto fought well like he always did in every fight but on that night nobody could do anything with Pacquiao, he was on 'another one level above the regular 'another level'. Pacquiao's fight with Margarito rivaled this fight as his best performance in my estimation, he thoroughly trashed a guy 17 lbs. bigger, 5 inches taller and with a 5 inch reach advantage. There were many other great performances but given the quality and the size of the opponents, I think Pacquiao showed his best against Cotto and Margarito.

I really like it when HBO Sports presents the boxing, their presentation felt real professional, Jim Lampley as the commentator is the best!

Consider this; Keith Thurman was considered the best WW currently, or in the top 3 of the best WW's, depending on who you asked. Add 10 full years of age and some 17 more fights to the Pacquiao you're seeing in this fight, and Pacquiao still beat Thurman at 40, including a first round knockdown. Who in the hell does shit like that except for Manny Pacquiao?

The last half of the 9th round was almost too vicious even for a prize fight. I'm a huge Pac fan but I was yelling for them to stop it near the end of the 9th. It became a blood letting and I felt for Cotto, his wife and son. This Pacquiao I think many will agree was top of the top shelf, he could do it all and then some. Wouldn't it have been a great fight, maybe the best ever, to see this Pacquiao against a 29 or 30 year old Sugar Ray Robinson at WW? I would always assume that SRR would be favored but damn, I'm not so sure he beats this Pacquiao. Imagine the big guys that Pacquiao beat, and beat them badly. From Oscar to Cotto, from Clottey to Margarito, and some others thrown in as well.
I went back and checked, in his career he entered the ring as the lighter man in almost every fight. He was also the shorter man in almost every fight, and had a reach disadvantage in most fights. All 3 of those things are difficult to overcome, but he did it while moving up in weight as well.
