It worked. I used the 12v battery on my motor mower, connected to the Ryobi battery with jump leads. Thank you. Very satisfying!

There's a dozen or more of these videos on YouTube, and I was happy I went with this one. Cuts to the chase; doesn't require me to hack my Ryobi charger. $15 trickle charger was worth the investment to get three formerly dead Ryobi lithium batteries in play again.
Thanks for posting.

Had a Ryobi 18v battery that died and wouldn't charge so I marked it bad and had planned on throwing it away. Before I got around to throwing it away a much newer battery did the same thing. I was thinking I would have to buy a couple of new batteries. I decided to do a search to see if anyone else had the same issue and I came across this video. Being a retired mechanic, I had everything necessary to try this process and it worked great. Took the batteries apart as shown in the video and used a small 12v charger touching the leads to the batter for only 1 minute. Both batteries are now charging great. Thank you for your video!

For those who don't quite understand, what he is saying is that there is a low level cut-out switch at approximately 4-a5 volts. So If the battery sits too long and drains, which it realistically should not if it's plugged into a tool because the tool has a low level switch to stop draining the battery before it reaches this criteria, the battery has a cut-out switch so it cannot charge. So by going into the battery and bypassing the little brain and directly charging the cells up above the brain cut-out threshold, he tricks the brain by bypassing it and giving the cells enough power to get the brain to open the passage for charging again. This works about 70-90% of the time, but if you have a burned out cell you need to revert to another video. Thanks for your great short video!

A little humor to this is I tried it your way and it worked, so easy your way. The humor or irony is I used my Ryobi impact driver and bits to fix my bad Ryobi battery. So, BIG thanks. Larry

Thank you for the information. I had just bought a Ryobi cordless hedge trimmer from an elderly lady who had used it a couple of times but left the battery in the machine.
Dead battery!
Tried your method of repair and now its alive and well.

I sometimes try these YouTube videos to fix things and they very rarely work. However, this time, everything worked perfectly and I know absolutely nothing about electronics! VERY clear instructions and showed me exactly what to do. I have no idea how to actually use a trickle charger or a multimeter but with this video I was able to fix my Ryobi 18 Volt battery and, more importantly, impress my wife with the blinking green light!!! Thanks so much for a great tutorial. I wonder if that process works on other similar batteries too. Keep up the good work. You are the MAN!

i am a ryobi fan and have 18v plus system batteries for a while and been replacing as they died, i assumed the batteries would no longer hold a charge or take a charge, your video is interesting and i will certainly give it a try, it gets expensive buying new 18v batteries, thank you for the tips

Look at your battery case to see if it offers pos and neg terminal markings. I was able to charge my battery without removing the casing/cover. Worked like a charm... took less than 30secs of holding the clips on the terminals before I plugged it back in to the ryobi charger and it started charging as usual. Thx for the video!

Worked for my battery !!! I had a battery that I couldn't "fix" by connecting to the visible terminal connectors... So I opened the battery, as shown in the video, and connected the charger directly to the internal batteries (thereby bypassing the electronics) and now, all is good.

Great fix! I had a Ryobi 18V 3ah that just went out and you saved me $67! Works great again and I now know to keep a charge on them too. Easy once I had an T10 extention torx bit. Thanks for posting.

Thank you. Good instructions . Nice and short. I tried to use my scooter battery charger and it did not work. Found out that it has safety features which prevented the boost. However I used a 12v random charger and was able to get it going. Now I have a working Ryobi battery.

Rather than a trickle charger I simply used another Ryobi 18v battery and connected it with a couple of handheld wires for 30 seconds... bingo, dead battery up to 12v and the charger recognises it instantly. Many thanks :)
