Clear impact gun- Jennings J-22

Do you ever wonder what a bad guy might be shooting at you with?

Any gun is better than no gun. A lot of people can only afford what gun they have. Your predator may be shooting at you with something you would never use. Watch Ed Combs, Former Deputy Sheriff, Associate Editor of Concealed Carry Magazine, and author from the USCCA shoot a Jennings J-22 chambered in .22 long rifle, holding 6-rounds, with a plastic safety. Ed is going to see if he can shoot this Jennings more than once in succession.

If a bad guy pointed his gun at you, would you consider this a deadly threat?

Ed agrees, yes. Because even though it would only fire once before you'd have to manually strip the magazine and clear the chamber, all of these bullets penetrated deep enough to end a human life. .22 long rifle ammo is not an ideal defensive cartridge, but when fired out of a modern firearm, it is lethal.

I bought one of these second hand. Out of the box had lots of problems. But once I gave it a thorough cleaning and loaded it with CCI Mini-Mag, works a treat. It doesn’t like bulk ammo. Stinger works well too.

I have the same J-22 with the chrome slide and pearl grips, bought it about 30 years ago. As long as it is cleaned well I usually don't have any problems with it, and I only put CCI stinger copper plated hollow point 32 grain in it when I carry it in my Uncle Mikes pocket holster.

I am a Criminal Justice Specialist and I carry a Taurus TX .22 16 rounds of CCI Punch ammo. I have a .38 Snubby but arthritis makes .22 more accurate. I also carry a Barretta 21A .22 Bobcat. My Son is a Doctor and you would be shocked to see how well a high velocity.22lr works in human flesh…

My first gun, still have it. Mine has black grips. It has since been "retired" to my bathroom gun. Good enough to pop off a couple rounds while scrambling for a better gun close by. It cycles much better with CCI MiniMags. The extra power helps avoid a short stroke, otherwise it stovepipes constantly.

I have a Jennings J22. Had it for over 30 years and NEVER had a problem with it jamming. It is a pain to break down and clean though. I also bought the 380 later on and that was a piece of junk.

I Agree. Also, I bought two Jennings .22 back in the early '80's when I moved to Arizona. Had to move back to N.Y. soon after so I never got to shoot them. Got rid of them when NYPD had buy back program. Got more then I paid for them. Glad I live in Florida now though.

I bought my J-22 thirty+ years ago. The only problem I had was early into ownership while shooting CCI Stingers my J-22 did in fact fall apart in my hands on two occasions. Subsequently, I stopped using Stingers and this little 22 has never let me down since. I regularly keep it cleaned and for 30 years it has often been my ‘go to’ for concealed carry especially in summer months when wearing shorts with a pocket holster.

Anyone with a jammin Jenny better know how to slick down the rough edges and replace the extractor.

Most bad guys favor a 9mm, .45 and .40 cal. Trauma rooms are filled with those calibers.

Like I always here: "A .22 is like a powerful pellet gun." Regardless, it's a force multiplier so I wouldn't want to get hit with one. Especially between the eyes!

22 is the most deadly round of all time for several reasons. 22lr has a tendency to do nasty things like tumbling fragmenting and going different ways in flesh. It can be a real nightmare for hospital personnel to find and treat the bullet wound. Its also cheap and used often by criminals which is the main reason why its so deadly. The other bigger calibers often times are FMJs used by criminals that are easier to find and treat.

Cal. 22 most underestimated of rounds making it "one" of the most deadly.

Thanks, Ed. I agree with everything you said.

Your mantra of "any gun i better than no gun" is true. Still there is so much more available both in quality, caliber and one's training.

I like how IraqVeteran8888 puts it:
“.22LR will kill the crap outta you.”
