Here we have a great selection of budget Everyday Carry folding knives, that also happen to be non-locking and with a blade length of under 3" making them UK legal and therefore legal in many other countries too.

This channel is here to give you ideas and inspiration when it comes to finding great Everyday Carry, Travel Gear and Gadgets, on the back of solid and detailed reviews alongside years of experience, which I hope will make life and travel just a little bit more frictionless and fun.

My name is Jonathan, I have a passion for all things gadget, travel and EDC (Everyday Carry), which has filled both my personal and work life for many years.

I welcome any feedback on my videos or the channel in general in the comments. See below for more on this.

Product Sourcing:

When it comes to sourcing a product for review, I will usually either  purchase and item personally or reach out to a supplier requesting a sample for review.  Many suppliers are supportive if they are confident in their product, appreciating the value of greater exposure.

I am sometimes asked to review a product by a supplier which I will only agree to if the product fits planned content for the channel and I believe will be of interest to you, my audience. The product needs to be worthy of a review and I always make it clear to the supplier that they cannot influence or be involved in the content in any way if they choose to supply a product. It is not in my interest to review inferior or poor quality products and therefore as you might expect many requests are politely declined.

Any sponsored videos (paid for reviews) are clearly stated as such so there can be no misunderstanding.  Even with sponsored reviews I will only agree to a sponsorship on products and services which I believe will be of genuine interest to viewers.

Sometimes a supplier will provide a link to the product or the supplier which I am happy to include in the description.  Sometimes I will be provided with an affiliate link so I can earn a commission on sales and this helps to support channel costs but never at the expense of an honest review. There is no cost to you and in some cases discounts can be obtained via the link or via an included code.

If a product I have reviewed is available from Amazon I will often include an Amazon link in the description.  As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase a product or service with the links that I provide I may receive a small commission. There is no additional charge to you.

Replying to Comments:

I really appreciate the feedback in the comments - I find it a source of knowledge and inspiration - so thank you to all of you who take the time to contribute. This is not just for me as the creator, it is a valuable source of information for all readers of the comments. I have recently found that if I continue to respond to all the comments as the number of videos builds, it takes time away from being able to produce new content which would be very counter productive! So my aim is to read everything I can and reply when I can, after each video goes live for the first few hours at least, and beyond that when possible. I'll see how that works out 😊

Please consider subscribing and being notified to keep up to date with new video releases.

Thank you for supporting the channel.

Can we not all get together and try to overturn the precedent against locking blade knives? It's a decision that makes absolutely no sense at all, and means people are at risk of seriously hurting themselves because it's harder to have a safe knife for the job. And it's not even a law, it's just a precedent set in court. And what's more, it does absolutely nothing to curb knife crime, since no one is going around stabbing people with a 3in or less locking blade pocket knife!

I watch a ton of knife channels both UK and USA based, and you are the first person I've ever heard call CRKT ( columbia River knife and tool ) "CRICKET!" none of the US knife channels call it that ( SMKW the knife centre BLADE HQ ) and now I've heard you say it I can't unsee ( un-say ) it !! 😂😂😂

My Opinel #7 is always on my belt. I use it for so many things. I keep a ceramic sharpener with it in a repurposed Leatherman sheath.

I have several Opinel (locking) carbon steel knives and love them.

Opinel uses Swedish steel Sandvik 12C27, which is the same as in stainless Morakniv models. It holds an edge quite well, especially if sharpened at 25° per side. But I keep mine at stock 20° and it still holds.

Also, AFAIK, you can get a №6 Opinel, remove the locking ring and it will still be legal in UK.

Thank you Jon. I am in the US, we can carry just about anything, but I am a big fan of slip-joint knives, have carried a Case Trapper for over 30 years. Nice to see such a good review of so many great slip-joint options.

Great video as always. I’m in the US but your insight is universal. While I don’t have to abide by the same guidelines as the UK I still got a good bit of info from this.

The Opinel reminds me of all the old blokes that cut apples and ate it off the blade 🤛💪

I've been carrying a Byrd Tern for the last few months, and I love it!!!

Glad to see Byrd is still making “recommended” lists in 2022. It’s an older brand, but I only recently discovered the Meadowlark/Harrier/Cara Cara line (in the US) and love them! I’ve got a TERN too.

I bought a Byrd Tern 2 days ago. For the price I was pleasantly surprised at the build quality!

Blimey I bought a Byrd Tern about 8 years ago and it was about £31. Which just shows you how prices change. It has shown great service so far and continues to do so especially in circumstances when I don't want to carry an expensive knife.

Great options for minimalistic edc. Affordability is good as well especially in the present economy. Great review.

I love when Byrd gets some love. I have several and they are amazing for the money.

Great video!

Potential wild card?: Svord Peasant Mini, uk legal, extended tang so you palm soft locks the blade open, high carbon stainless steel and best of all they range from £20 for plastic scales to £30 for wood.

Plus if you're so inclined if you're into modding your gear then it also has a lot of options.

CRKT stands for Columbia River Knife and Tool. Just in case you didn’t know.

Liking the video, especially when showing the knife lengths on the screen .

As someone who's been getting into whittling, it's nice to see a sheepsfoot blade get a mention. I'd love to see a rundown of straight blades. At the moment I use a non-foldable Morakniv knife, and would love a pocket carry knife (UK legal) for taking to the allotment.
