Since when did Indian heritage or identity save anyone from getting accused as Racist in West? Indian are racially mocked all the time in West and their media and it's pretty casual. On the contrary Indians are shamed as racist or "humorless" most of the time for calling out racism. So what shield is she talking about?

He clearly diverted the attention away from her actual question. She had a VERY valid question, probably from good suspicion that he was using his heritage as a card to say "I'm allowed to say that". He didn't answer her question, instead asking her if he said anything wrong TONIGHT. Maybe he didn't, but that doesn't excuse what he did in the past.
For example, if someone asks "I am concerned that you're using your police status to target and kill people of colour" and he replied "have you seen me kill anyone tonight?" You'd see the logical discrepancy

Well she said “in the past” but he diverted it to what about “tonight?” Quite manipulative though, and not even explaining the past actions.
edit: I don't know both the man and the girl. All I know is that according to this video, the man didn't answer the girl's question straightforwardly, and the girl just gave up on her defense too quickly. My opinion is only pertained to this video without knowing if the man has ever made racist statements in the past and the extend to which the video is edited.
