In honor of today here is a a full review of Taverna Mykonos in Elmwood Park.

When first entering you know your stepping foot into not only a Family-owned Restaurant but you are about to become part of the Greek Family. Don't be surprised if the Owner Giorgos "George" is there to extend his hand and welcome you as well. If you're looking for comfort and a memorable fine dining experience this spectacular Restaurant will be one of your most cherished meals that you will want to share with your loved ones for many years to come. Having a genetically inclined palate from Sicily to be exact Giardini Naxos next to Taormina my DNA is very Greek and first let me tell you about the Octopus. (From the menu)"Sushi quality Mediterranean octopus grilled w/onions, red wine vinegar & evoo" I wasn't surprised to hear after each bite of perfectly cooked and seasoned Octopus melted in my mouth it was one of their most ordered appetizers, actually 90% of customers order it! It was also cut up into perfect bite size pieces no need to knife and fork the Octopus. I'm missing so much already! Then for the first time in my life I was introduced to Saganaki (from the menu) "Kefalograviera cheese pan-seared with evoo & finished with fresh lemon juice" I would say it was like a pan seared fresh mozzarella and had a beautiful cheddar taste to it with amazing texture. Then the Hummus and oh my Hummus!! Just devine in so many ways! It was so full of flavor and the texture was full bodied with no signs of oil dripping, truly a perfect Hummus! For the Soup of the Day I went with the Lentil Soup and have had many Lentil soups in my life and this one was beyond fresh and savory. I'm wondering now where they get their Lentils and from which Island in Greece! It was great to the very last spoonful and then I dipped their homemade bread in the remaining soup to enjoy every last drop. Speaking of the bread it was also so fresh and you can tell it had special authentic grains and ingredients plus he Greek Olive Oil for dipping was full of flavor from Greece. To clear the palate the Greek Salad (from the menu) "Fresh mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, peppers, Kalamata olives and feta cheese" was full of freshness and the Feta was Some other favorites are the Chilean Sea Bass with their Red or White sauce over risotto as well as their Lamb Chops are a huge hit. All desserts are homemade except their Orange Cake which I continue to crave now. It was so great to hear the same Chef has been dedicated in the kitchen here even prior to George taking ownership and he felt it was great to see the Chef was open to initially slightly altering the menu reducing spice and some other fine details. Service was beyond impeccable and attention to every detail was in place. When my water got near less than half in my glass it was filled right up, that should sum up any other questions on service. Catering is in full force too and it was great to hear during the height of Covid George made sure to accommodate his customers' needs and increased home deliveries to ensure his customers could enjoy his authentic cuisine in the comfort of their own home. George didn't say but the Mediterranean diet and especially Greek Cuisine has its own immune boosting properties so I believe he was part of fighting the Coronavirus! There is a full bar with a lot of Greek wines about 80% to be exact from all regions in Greece, talk about being authentic! He has other great choices too including from California and Spain.
