Is it possible to just put the silver shavings in the skull mold and melt it from there or will it not work that way?

Hi Joshua. I have been melting silver for various projects. But I have not been able to get those crucibles to work right. I tried to do the borax trick, but the borax just melted in with the silver when I melted the silver.... What is the trick to correctly boraxing the crucible so the borax doesn't just remelt into the silver and ruin it? It ruined my silver and the crucible....

Hey Josh, I was just thinking about finally melting down my scrap silver. I’ve had the mold that has two sides. One is for sheet metal and the other is for different sizes of wire. Do you happen to know what the name of the spray you use for the mold? It’s used to prevent the metal from sticking to the mold? I want to order it and while I pretty much order everything from Rio you have to be totally specific on what you want when your ordering online. They’re system is definitely NOT user friendly! It’s not bad when customer service is there during the day. They usually know what you’re talking about. If you know, a quick response from you would be awesome! Thanks! Teri

Why do you not use Borax to season your crucible?
