My beginning fourth grade trombone players do this all the time. Who knew they were that more advanced than me.

That means, split tone = (a+b) / 2. right? For example, if one desires the Split tone between the second and third overtones, does it entail playing the note below the octave of the fifth overtone? Then it seems very similar to the multiphonic of string instruments. Thank you!

I always called this a double buzz and would do it by accident sometimes. It would really frustrate me.
