Murder Capital of the World | Living in San Pedro Sula, Honduras | Free Documentary

In the company of a pastor, an assassin, and a crime reporter, this film examines the fine line between good and evil in the world's most dangerous city.

Priest and furniture maker Daniel Pacheco works in one of the most dangerous cities in the world: San Pedro Sula, Honduras. He tries to save lives, but that’s no simple matter in a country with staggeringly high murder rates. The killings are countless, not just by the drug cartels but also by the police and the army. Pacheco lives in the midst of it, risking his own life.

Reporting murders is everyday business for TV journalist Orlin Castro. He seems comfortable with the nocturnal violence, but at the same time, he dreams of a different, quieter life. A hitman named Matathan talks openly about his profession. He says he has had enough and wants to start a new, pious existence. But Pacheco, who knows him well, doubts his sincerity.

Following these three men, Dutch-American filmmaker Loretta van der Horst, who was born in Honduras, gets frighteningly close to the horrific violence that no one seems able to end. If you don’t value your own life, Pacheco explains, it’s easier to kill others.

My wife works as a Christian missionary in col rivera hernandez, san pedro sula, honduras. She teaches english and art to children in the community. Each and every child she works with has experienced horrific abuse. it's nerve wracking but she's so passionate. I've seen how working in Honduras has changed her and motivated her as a person. I'll be travelling with her on the next trip. The incredible bond my wife has with her students has changed her as a person. We hope to buy property in the community she works in and build a mission house there so we can stay there for long stretches of time. We see the world through different eyes since she started this work. We are very grateful for what we have and the abundance we can share with her community in Honduras.

This is what happens when corruption goes unchecked. Those meant to govern the people enrich themselves and the people live in poverty, forever.

My parents are from Roatan in the Bay Island’s and the mainland is dangerous, with San Pedro Sula being the ultimate mess. When we go down we spend as little time in San Pedro as possible, because that is the airport we have to use.

It’s crazy that back in the day that blacks were stigmatized in Honduras when my parents were growing up, but you hardly ever hear Black Hondurans being involved in this wickedness!!

I personally visited the Rivera Hernández sector and although I lived almost all my life in Honduras when you reached that area you can feel the danger, if it is not extremely necessary that you go to that place do not do it
