Boat Friends,
Join me on a thrilling maritime adventure as the mighty Edwin H. Gott departs from Duluth, Minnesota, despite challenging weather conditions. Filmed on April 27, 2024, witness the raw power of Lake Superior in this gripping video.

The Edwin H. Gott, renowned for its robust structure and impressive length of over 1000 feet, braves the elements as it heads out of Duluth. On this day, it was not just battling the typical waves but was also loaded with a full cargo of iron ore, adding to the drama of its journey. As the rain poured down and the winds howled at 30 mph, the Gott made its way under the iconic Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge and through the ship canal, where the waves were churning, splashing wildly against the walls, soaring feet into the air.

Experience the intensity from a safe distance and see why the Edwin H. Gott is a favorite among ship enthusiasts and Boat Friends around the world. The splashing waves, combined with the stormy weather, create a spectacle that is both beautiful and fierce. This video is perfect for anyone who loves ships, thrilling weather conditions, and the raw beauty of Lake Superior.

Years ago when the family lived in Pittsburgh we had a golden retriever named Roger Blough! Those were the Pittsburgh Steamship fleet days.

This guy is the type of person that gives me hope when I feel inundated by the hate, lies, greed, ego and degradation that seems to have covered these social media sites like an oily sheen, or some type of suffocating sludge. Thanks for bringing this to us. It makes me think of the iconic line, "So shines a good deed in a weary world."

My Dad worked on frieghters on the Great Lakes from 1937 until the attack on Pearl Harbor. Then, of course, he joined the Navy. He was born in 1920. He once told me if he slept at the right time he wouldn't see land for four days on the lakes.
I grew up in Michigan but now reside on the Gulf Coast, I'm still around big water. One thing that I've noticed about people from other parts of the Country is they have NO IDEA just how massive the Great Lakes are. My Wife's first reaction was priceless. She kept calling Lake Michigan an ocean. I could see the "HOLY CRAP" look on her face. I beam with pride when someone visits Michigan for the first time and comes back to tell me about their trip.

Safe travels. I have a LOT of respect for the officers and crew that guide these ships to and from their ports, day and night, in every kind of weather. ⚓️

"Watching the ships roll in
And I watch 'em roll away again, yeah
I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away"

That camera span really shows the immense length of this ship. I thought the stern would have showed up sooner but the pan just kept going and going. Very impressive!
