Our house passed inspection. However, the drain for one of the bathtubs was not connected to the sewer line. There was a solid end on the pipe. A 2 inch pipe led from the tub and rested loosely inside the larger pipe supposedly leading to the sewer. So tub water went down the 2 in, into the larger pipe until it reached the plugged end then backflowed to the top of the larger pipe and just overflowed under the house. This stayed this way for years.

When the drain went from kind of slow to almost stopped we snaked the line and the snake came back up to the tub and that's how we figured it out.

There were other things missed like electric outlet issues and a dishwasher not screwed in. People would be surprised what "passes".

The struggle is real! Never fails, spend a little money on a much needed vacation, immediately there's a urgent need for additional money elsewhere in my life. I'm happy it happened after you guys were there so you got to enjoy your special alone time. I'm a firm believer every couple needs this!!

My son and daughter in law bought a house several years ago. Passed inspection. Shortly after moving in they started having broken pipes in their ceilings within months of moving in. Not only did it create multiple visits from a plumber, they had to have their ceilings repaired. This continued over a year and half. They found out during this process that the previous owners had the same problem, but it was not disclosed. The plumbing company told them that the builder put subpar piping in the house when it was built. Unfortunately, it was beyond any warranty. They ended up having to replace all the piping in their ceiling. So far, no more issues. It’s a nightmare, that’s for sure! Hope yours is just a random issue!

This is why I’ll never buy another house. The weekend I was due to move in, the ceiling fell in and it took over a month to get the tradespeople in and get it fixed and another three month to get the insurance to pay me. Last October, something similar happened so I phoned my landlord. Three days later it was all repaired and repainted and it was like nothing had ever happened.

Do you have well water? Do you have copper pipes? My mother innlaw had issues with pin holes forming in the copper pipes. Their house was built in 1978. But the copper pipes were getting corroded by the minerals in the well water. She had to re-pipe the whole house with pex. The only good thing about the whole situation was the insurance covered the cost and then they were able to sell the copper to cover the cost of the deductible.

The good thing is, this, too, shall pass. I’m very thankful for this fact in my life. Whenever I’m going through something difficult, I remind myself of this.

So sorry to hear you guys had your cruise interrupted by this! What a bummer. If you have non metal pipes it’s time to replace all of them through the whole house! I know it’s a lot but this happens to those types of pipes as they age. Better to just replace all of them at least in the same area… If you can. 😅

Oh Cas! How scary & frustrating! Praying you guys find the source and fixing it stops the problems. 🙏🏼💜

Many years ago the house I had just purchased decided to create a waterfall from the bathroom wall, down the living room ceiling- behind the TV and cable lines - to our basement. Turns out our dear old house had iron pipes-1888 vintage- which through the years had rotted away. I'm no longer there, luckily got to leave before we had to redo every pipe and the electrical system. You have my sympathy! Good luck.

Oh no! They most likely are related. Our building had something similar, with multiple apartments having leaks, not just ours. Every segment of pipe they fixed turned out to be part of a long section of older pipes that had gotten twisted and cracked in multiple locations. Or your house is cursed. One or the other. I hope you find the right plumber/ghost whisperer! Best of luck! Did you at least have fun on the cruise??

I am so sorry about the leak in your house during your vacation.

So sorry you're going through this. We just had our roof repaired and that was expensive and the damage caused created a nightmare to repair. It's hard to find good contractors my God! Wish you all the best!

At least you if you didn't have the money, there is other bathrooms your family can use. You can technically stop by not using that bathroom. I live in a complex and there is a bathroom upstairs in a different unit with a different family, that when it is used, it rains in my kitchen. Yes, yucky dirty water. It is dangerous because it rains directly over my stove and fridge. They stop using that bathroom for quite sometime now.

O M G and those things a person might not see or even seen at a house inspection. Best of luck with everything. Replacements can be costly but if done correctly, it will good for years

I feel your pain. If you have copper pipes and acidic water... that's a recipe for leaks. You may want to consider having a water-softening system installed.

Well, see? You shouldn't have left it and went and had fun without it, lol! Seriously Cass, don't depend on that caulk holding. It's definitely not a permanent solution. Get that plumber back and have him fix it and check EVERYTHING over. Ask him why it keeps happening. Dang girl, you have the craziest life ever! 🤣

Oh noooo, what a horrible & stressful thing to come home to! You’re gonna need a post-cruise cruise! 😉 I developed a bad mold allergy (that landed me in the ER), from water damage that wasn’t remediated & sealed properly. So please review (with whomever you hire) what’s necessary to ensure no mold growth! Once you get through this, you will appreciate all the wonderful things about your house! 😊

What a mess. I'm so sorry you are having deal with this nightmare plumbing issue. My youngest daughter and her friend put on bathing suits and played "Titanic" in the upstairs shower (for at least an hour)...they put washrags over the drain so they could fill the shower up. Water was coming out the sides of the shower and they had no idea. Eventually the water started running down the walls of the downstairs living room. This was our dream house we had built and was less than 2 weeks old. We ended up with a big bubble of water on the downstairs ceiling and the upstairs wood floors ruined. It's funny now but it sure wasn't back then 😂
