Pauline Ferrand Prevot is the new Olympic Mountain Bike champion and promises to win again in road cycling as she fights for the Tour de France yellow jersey after retiring from mountain biking upon winning Olympic gold. The iliac surgery is a thing - it’s due to DVT and reduces blood returning to the heart from the leg. There are many causes of DVT there and sometimes it just happens (about 40% of cases). It can require surgery to the blood vessel. And, it can require repeat surgery as she has had. It’s not cheating and no different to having a plate, say, on a #clavicle. However…. it does open the door to TUI during the recovery period including reducing future recurrence of fibrosis. And that can include treatments normally considered performance enhancing. She certainly deserves to be able to have the vein problem treated and to compete. However…. Complicated stuff…

It cant be a coincidence that so many riders become much stronger after recovering from serious illness or injury. Presumably, under medical supervision all kinds of substances can be legitimately ingested…then continued post-recovery in the form of TUEs. 🤷‍♂️

I did find myself wondering what was going on while watching her performance.
To pull out 30 seconds of a gap in half a lap on some of the best in the world was just unbelievable. It's not as though it was a mid season race where maybe it could be explained away by riders being at different points in their training, every rider would have been looking to peak for the Olympics.
Part of me was suspecting her preference for the hardtail MTB was because it allowed the use of a motor in the frame which wouldn't be as simple to do with a full sus

Great video piece as always sir:) I am wondering if Visma is clean. Do they have any doping doctors on board? If so will you please make a video about them? I am suspicious about the visma team. They won all three grand tours last year. Great victories for sure and never seen before:) but with the past cycling have had I wonder if they took any shortcuts to win. Like doping or maybe abusing the TUE system.
