We visited the Legendary Thermopolaye, the battlefield where Leonidas and his 300 Spartan Warriors and Greek Allies held back the Persian Tide fir 3 days and nights before being betrayed. Aware that the traitor was leading the persians to outflank them, Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, along with 700 Thespian allies chose to stay and fight until the last man. A battle that was one of the greatest last-stands in History. See how the battlefield looks today.

"Today was a day the persians will never forget. Tomorrow is a day the world will remember!"-King Leonidas

The battle was around 20 meters under (60 feet roughly).
The Hill was much higher and steeper and the sea was around where the road (or the monument) is today.
You can still smell the sulfur in the water stream that gives the name of the place (it is way smaller today than it was described).
I was there around the same time you posted this video.

My two biggest interests in history are WW2 and ancient Greece/Rome. I can't believe I'm just discovering your channel. It ties both of my interests into one and I'm so grateful to have this content to binge watch now. Thanks for sharing.

After seeing the spartan memorial with the flowers I heard Maximus voice in my mind "What we do in life... ECHOES IN ETERNITY!"

It must have bren so exciting to walk there, ive always wondered how it looked. An interesting side note is that ANZAC forces fought a delaying action here in WW2 against Germany when Greece had already capitulated. It was considered an "eternal shame" for Greece for not fighting on the hallowed battlefield.

The Spartans and their allies may have lost the battle, but they helped create western civilization! Their contribution to western civilization should never be forgotten!

I've always wondered what it looked like. It's flatter than I imagined it. Wonderful, thank you very much!

Great presentation, your enthusiasm and your honor is touching.
I've read the account of the battle many times, the brutality of war and the sacrifice of the allied Greek forces, the superb battle tactics of the Spartans and the betrayal of one of Greece's own sons. The destruction was only a mater of time regardless of Hydarnes the Younger's troops taking the high ground around the pass, the outcome would have been the same.
I can't imagine dying by sword, spear or arrows, it must have been terrible.

Great video! I love how excited you are at being there! If someone can stand on that spot and feel nothing they are dead or very ignorant.

I was there a few years ago, exactly where you are. It was pretty exciting. The landscape has changed over the last 2400 years. The coast was further in.

It is an amazing feeling to tread on ground where history was shaped. I often feel this way when I visit "the angle" at Gettysburg.

It was much narrower back then. I forget the reason, maybe the sea receded? But I don't think it was much more than 100m wide. Which makes sense because you ain't gonna hold all that ground with 300 guys no matter how badass they are
