There definitely are many components from tour quality swings which most everyone should copy. The main thing is to watch with a discerning eye and to be able to differentiate between the universal aspects that are indicative of all ‘good’ swings and the unique aspects which are idiosyncratic to certain players. For example, John Daly swings over the top; massively. He’s probably one of the only players to ever go pro with a huge over the top move but he makes it work because his impact position is sound despite all the weirdness that precedes it.

I tried to swing like John Daly one day with his super long back swing and bent front arm and you can probably guess I went back to the way I was doing it before. 😅

100% agree with this. Copy the setups for many but never the swings.

Are there any top tour players that you wouldn’t mind novices copying? I’ve been in awe of Max Homa’s swing and trying to mimic his swing.

I will say this, and you confirmed it. EVERYBODY could benefit from more hip rotation, and right side bend through the ball. Period.

mind you neither of them are nowhere near as extreme side bent as DJ and some of those new young guys (name escapes me)... But they'll probably feel it when they reach 30+

So, really we just should be copying *certain* tour pros? I don’t think anyone would complain if they started swinging like Adam Scott.

Most players get to the top levels with traditional balanced swings and probably less practice than it would take to maintain freak mechanics. Some swings like day, niemann just hurt to watch.

I'm not agree. Copy is the best way to learn in all fields.
