I like the dabbing technique. Prior to cleaning the optics, I start by cleaning the outside of the eyepiece using the optics cleaning fluid with a separate microfiber cloth than the one I use for cleaning the glass.

The dabbing on and off would remove any rogue or remaining particles after you had 'blowed it off'. Good tip. Better than rubbing them in and scratching the lens.
