3 Strategies Improving my CARS Section of the MCAT #shorts

THREE STRATEGIES:

1. WATCH FOR CONTRADICTIVE WORDS – such as but, instead, contrary, on the other hand, etc.
These caused me to miss points early on because I would use information from the passage before they contradicted it later in the passage. Highlight those tricky words!

2. COVER THE TIMER
While I’m still working on accuracy, I don’t care about the time. The faster timing will come with more accuracy deciphering questions and the passage. I get really hard on myself when it takes me 20 minutes to do a passage, even if I got all the questions right! More practice with higher accuracy = shorter passage time later on.

3. WHEN DOING PROCESS OF ELIMINATION, LOOK AT THE OPTIONS THROUGH A DIFFERENT LENS
I’m usually pretty good at narrowing the options down to 2, but I usually end up picking the wrong one of the two. My tutor told me last night that when it comes down to two options, take a step back and look at the options through a different lens. Instead of “which answer look the most correct?” ask yourself “which answer looks the most incorrect?” It’s easy to get on a one-track mind of looking for the correct answer, which can cause you to lose parts of the answers that may be important to consider.
