An occupational therapy treatment plan should include:
.
1️⃣ A personalized sensory diet that the child can use in a variety of situations to meet their unique sensory needs. Teach it to the child AND the caregivers.
2️⃣ A primitive reflex integration plan that targets any retained primitive reflexes that are negatively impacting function. This will require carryover into the home so get the family on board as much as possible AND include primitive reflex integration into your treatment sessions.
3️⃣ Oral motor activities - great for sensory seekers, kiddos with low muscle tone, picky eaters, and any kiddo who needs help with body awareness!
4️⃣ An emotional regulation program - try 5 finger breathing, belly breathing, the Zones of Regulation... Create something that fits the child's needs and will carryover to home, school, etc.
5️⃣ Something fun & motivating. A child's main occupation is PLAY so make sure you're including play into the treatment session. If what you're doing isn't motivating to the child, they won't make progress!
