I own the 2003 Barbie! I got it for my [REDACTED] birthday and it was huge deal because we were very poor when I was little, so I'm little sad she got funfetti tier :(

Ahaha I love that the Barbie who blows up balloons is the first to go in carrot cake 😂 I have her new in box bc a relative gave her to my sister for her birthday the year she came out, and my sister doesn't like dolls so she gave her to me. She's still in box as of right now, but one day I will take her out and mess with her goofy, ridiculous balloon blowing mechanic. My immediate thoughts on seeing the 2004 Birthday Wishes Barbie (at 12:04) was "If Gaz from Invader Zim had to wear a formal dress, this is what she'd wear". It's very 2000's era goth to me - it's not just the dark purple color, but also the arm bands and the dark lipstick that are really giving me that impression. I don't think it's very birthday, but I do like it for how much it stands out compared to everything else.

happy birthday!! i had the 2003 birthday barbie as a kid and she was my absolute favorite doll. she’s even more special now because my cat at the time decided to bite a hole through her hand (the only time she ever did that, oddly enough) and has since passed away.

There she is! I recognize the 1990 "Happy Birthday Barbie" as the one of the only major dolls I begged for for some time and finally got. Her pink princess dress was the star of the show on every Barbie I owned afterward. The puff-sleeve bodice is actually separate from the two-layered skirt, which also made for more flexible play. Her hair had some strands of micro holographic tinsel ribbon in it as well. I played this doll absolutely into the ground before she reached a yard sale, so it's so interesting to see her untouched, as I did once in the store. This strange feeling of connection is what niche internet stuff is for.

I'm kinda surprised that still up to 2016 the boxes were saying 'For a special birthday girl'. I dunno. I thought they might have stopped doing that sooner? Unless the birthday wishes are for Barbie, and not the person getting her as a gift. I'm definitely overthinking it. 😛
